Is this a Windows Phone from Sony?

Despite their many efforts, Sony has never been especially popular in the Android world. They have some very nice looking devices, but they have never been able to achieve the popularity of HTC, Samsung, or Motorola with their Android offerings. With that in mind, Sony has been branching out in an attempt to gain some of that all important marketshare. One of the more interesting steps they seem to be taking has been a move into Windows Phone space. Recently...

Megaupload Has Been Shut Down!

According to the Associated Press the worlds largest file-sharing sites, MegaUpload.com, has been shut down. As it stands right now, the website is completely inaccessible. Federal prosecutors have accused the owners of Megaupload with violating piracy laws, possibly exceeding 500 million dollars in pirated content. Once the 13th most popular website in the world, operating as a free file hosting service for any kind of content, Megaupload.com is potentially gone forever. Megaupload.com staff claims they were always on top of complaints about material...

Regional Wi-Fi Issues in ICS Gone with WiFi Fix

It turns out that, in some countries, if you have a SIM card in your Android 4.0 device, Wifi doesn't work like it should. Apparently, there's an issue specifically with the Wifi country code that causes the problem. Fortunately, XDA Member fardjad has isolated the issue and offers a fix with his free app, Wifi Fix for ICS. If you have a rooted phone, all you need to do is install the apk and grant the app SU permissions. The app will, from...

The Sprint Galaxy Nexus – What We Know So Far

Product leaks are nothing new, but when that leak is about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a lot of people tend to pay attention. Yesterday afternoon, and unfortunately early ad placement on CNET revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was coming to Sprint soon. The latest and greatest in the Nexus line has been making its way around Europe, and only landing in the US on Verizon Wireless officially until this leak. If the Sprint Galaxy Nexus comes out soon, we...

CM7 for Samsung Epic 4G now with WiMAX

A constant plague on Sprint users who want their ROM cake and eat it too is whether or not the ROM supports WiMAX. Now, mere days after the CyanogenMod 7 XDA forum for the Samsung Epic 4G became a reality, WiMAX is now a part of the package. Forum Member UberPinguin updated the Epic 4G forum post earlier today with all of the details for RC0 of CyanogenMod 7.2.0 for the Epic 4G. For those unfamiliar with CyanogenMod, this ROM...

10 Predictions for 2012

As we head swiftly into the new year, Livven gave us a look into the past 12 months for XDA. The tech world at large has had a great year, and there doesn't seems to be any signs of next year slowing down. With that in mind, Azrienoch and I have put together 10 predictions for the next year of tech. 10 - The Samsung Galaxy S III will not, contrary to many rumors, have 3D.  Not only would 3D technology increase Samsung's...

Website Update: We’re moving from GoDaddy

As many of you may be aware, we here at XDA-Developers occasionally stand in support of our members. All of you feel that you can submit things on the forums, knowing that the information is appreciated, used, and shared. We have members all over the world, and we know that the rules aren't always the same when it comes to what you are "legally" allowed to do. I think I can speak for a great many by saying that while our...

Hi, I’m Russell, the New XDA Portal Admin

Not many of you will know who I am right away. My name is Russell Holly, and I have been asked to fill a need here at XDA. The XDA Portal has, for a long time, been a great resource to bring new users to the XDA forums. By offering brief little nuggets of information about the comings and goings of the XDA forums, all neatly packaged and boiled down so all can understand it, the Portal writers stand as...

Third Party Windows Phone Apps Now Have Full SkyDrive Access

One of the major points of contention that Android users tend to hold over the heads of all the other platforms is the glory of "The Cloud". It's not for nothing, Google's plan to make your mobile experience almost completely reliant on the combination of an Internet connection and their services yields some pretty great results. I never have to worry about my photos, documents, contacts, or much of anything else for that matter. For users who aren't rooted, the only thing...

HP TouchPad Firesale Part Deux?

It really was a shame that it was already too late for WebOS when the HP Touchpad came out. It had quality hardware, and has proven that it can survive being poked and prodded by hackers and modders of every skill level. In  many ways, the $99 firesale that happened when HP decided to dump their stock of the TouchPad was the best possible thing for it. Not only did it get the device into  the hands of people who...

Nokia Powered Windows Phone Coming to the US Soon?

Of the three major smartphone operating systems left, Windows Phone is in third place by a pretty wide margin. It makes sense, since it is by far the youngest of the three and hasn't had the warmest of welcomes because of its youth. Microsoft had to wipe the slate clean and start all over with their play in the smartphone world and they have yet to catch up in terms of software or hardware. Now, with the Mango update they...

LTE on Sprint? Maybe someday…

There was a time where I would gladly jump ship to another carrier to get the best phone out there. I switched back and forth every couple of months it seemed. For me, I settled down when the G1 came out, stayed on T-Mobile though the Nexus One and the Nexus S. But then, I was given a new reason to jump ship. Verizon Wireless launched 4GLTE in my area, and that was all the reason I needed. A faster...

Is WebOS Only Mostly Dead? We’ll Find Out in Two Weeks

There isn't a sadder story in the mobile world than that of WebOS. It had such potential as a platform. Multitasking was pretty good, the modders and hackers really took a liking to how much you could play with it, and it really seemed like it had a pretty bright future ahead of it. Unfortunately, it suffered from a sever case of really awful hardware. With the exception of the Touchpad (which has a forum on XDA), which was sadly...

Run Windows Phone 7 in any Browser

It's easy to develop a sort of tunnel vision when it comes to your phone. You make that purchase, and you need to justify the experience sometimes by defending that choice against an alternative. When you see something that you like, it might even be visually appealing enough to cause that twinge of jealousy, it's common to dismiss that because you can't have it. Yes, friends, welcome to the imaginary and sometimes overly aggressive world of the fanboy. I'm sure we're all guilty...
