Forums Added for Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Galaxy W I8150

By popular request, we’ve added forums for the Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and the Galaxy W I8150. The former is an affordable (and hackable) Android 2.3 smartphone with a pocket-sized form factor thanks to its 3.0″ HVGA display. The latter is a more advanced Android 2.3 smartphone that has a 1.4GHz Snapdragon CPU with 512MB of RAM. Click on to the Galaxy Y and Galaxy W forums!. . . READ ON »

XDA’s 10 Post Rule

XDA’s 10 Post Rule

On XDA, our main focus is and always will be to foster open development for our mobile devices. With that in mind, the development sub-sections found for every device on XDA are where all of the development activity happens: it’s where developers post ROMs, radios, and root instructions. It’s also where XDA members can provide constructive feedback to the developers that generously provide their work, for free, to everyone.

Early last year, we put in place what we call the “10 Post Rule” in an effort to protect the development forums on XDA. We were finding that many new . . . READ ON »

Winners Of WakeVoice – A Talking Alarm Clock

Winners Of WakeVoice – A Talking Alarm Clock

We ran a contest last week where we gave away 20 licenses of WakeVoice. Time is now up and we’ve tallied all the entries to pick out those 20 lucky winners; some were handpicked for their creative and amusing comments, the rest was randomly chosen. All winners have gotten PMs with instructions to send Livven the IMEI (MEID for CDMA) code of their Android device, so the developer, ADNFX Mobile, can get them their license for the Android Market.

Here are the winners: . . . READ ON »

XDA’s Favorite Phone and Tablet of 2011 Contest: Vote Now!

A few weeks ago we ran a contest asking users to submit videos telling us why they wanted to win one of two devices, the ASUS Transformer and Samsung Galaxy S II. The devices are being given away because they won Tablet and Phone of 2011 according to XDA Members, something Samsung was so happy about, they offered to give away three Galaxy S II’s on T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon. And we’ve stepped up to offer a shiny new Asus Tranformer tablet for the contest as well, making for a total of four devices to give away. Finalists have been . . . READ ON »

Welcome to the Refreshed XDA Portal!

Welcome to the Refreshed XDA Portal!

A new year, a new Portal Admin, and now a new look to our Portal to round it all out! This refresh, several months in the making, is tuned for speed. It integrates more white space than the previous design as to provide a cleaner, more open feel. We now have better control over filtering content categories and features. Best of all, the Portal acts as a true portal by letting you login to the widget on the right and see your subscribed forums, threads, plus a PM preview box, without having to go into the forums. Brilliant! If it doesn’t . . . READ ON »

Website Update: We’re moving from GoDaddy

Website Update: We’re moving from GoDaddy

As many of you may be aware, we here at XDA-Developers occasionally stand in support of our members. All of you feel that you can submit things on the forums, knowing that the information is appreciated, used, and shared. We have members all over the world, and we know that the rules aren’t always the same when it comes to what you are “legally” allowed to do. I think I can speak for a great many by saying that while our unified voices are strong, there is nothing stronger than action. In keeping with that, we have decided to move XDA-Developers . . . New XDA Feature: Contextual Search

New XDA Feature: Contextual Search

We recently made some big upgrades to our search system on XDA. It now burdens our servers less (XDA users *really* like to search), provides improved results, and has a contextual search feature. The latter feature makes it super fast and easy to search for certain key terms on the XDA forums. Just highlight what you want to search for and you’ll see a little magnifying glass pop up. Hit that, and you’ll be taken to the XDA contextual search. Enjoy.. . . READ ON »

Hi, I’m Russell, the New XDA Portal Admin

Not many of you will know who I am right away. My name is Russell Holly, and I have been asked to fill a need here at XDA. The XDA Portal has, for a long time, been a great resource to bring new users to the XDA forums. By offering brief little nuggets of information about the comings and goings of the XDA forums, all neatly packaged and boiled down so all can understand it, the Portal writers stand as the bridge between the average user and the crazed gearhead. I’ve been a user of the XDA forums for quite . . . READ ON »

Beware of Phishing Attacks Against XDA Members

It has recently come to our attention that there is someone–using a domain very similar to xda-developers.com–operating a phishing scheme trying to steal the usernames and passwords of XDA users. The site is using a transparent proxy to access XDA and to essentially copy XDA page-for-page, URL-for-URL. This site, other than the small difference in domain, looks and feels exactly like XDA. Please always make sure you are on xda-developers.com (rather than xda-developers.com.xx, for example) before entering your password. For 99.99% of you, there’s very little likelihood that you would ever end up on the “fake” XDA, but we . . . READ ON »

Forum Added for Samsung Galaxy R

Forum Added for Samsung Galaxy R

The Samsung Galaxy R is a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II that is less expensive. Instead of the Super AMOLED Plus display, the Galaxy R has a Super Clear LCD at 4.27″ and WVGA resolution. And instead of the Samsung Exynos CPU found on the Galaxy S II, the Galaxy R has Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip. The Galaxy R now has its own spot on XDA! Click on to the forums.. . . READ ON »

Contest: Win XDA’s Favorite Phone and Tablet of 2011!

Contest: Win XDA’s Favorite Phone and Tablet of 2011!

Recently we asked you what your favorite phone and tablet were of 2011. The results were pretty unanimous with most of you favoring the Galaxy S II as your favorite phone, and the Asus Transformer as your favorite tablet. As such, we’re going to be giving away three Galaxy S II’s (one for T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint) thanks to the folks at Samsung, and we’re also going to be giving away an Asus Transformer, thanks to the folks at XDA (that’s us!). For more on how to enter, click on! . . . READ ON »

Want to Write for the XDA Portal?

Want to Write for the XDA Portal?

XDA is hiring experienced writers for the Portal (which is our fancy way of referring to the front-page here) that can write several posts per day about development activity in the XDA forums. To apply, send two sample articles to portal@xda-developers.com. Articles should be around 200 words and should prove that you can dive deep into the forums to find newsworthy content. Also, make sure we haven’t posted about it before!. . . READ ON »

Forum Added for Samsung Focus S

Forum Added for Samsung Focus S

The original Samsung Focus was one of the best Windows Phone 7 devices because it was fast, had a beautiful screen, and was very thin. As a follow up to the original, Samsung has created the Focus S, an improved version that adds Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, a faster 1.4GHz Snapdragon CPU with 512MB of RAM, a larger 4.3″ screen, and an even thinner design. Now this great device has a spot on XDA. Click on to the Focus S forums!. . . READ ON »
