On XDA, our main focus is and always will be to foster open development for our mobile devices. With that in mind, the development sub-sections found for every device on XDA are where all of the development activity happens: it’s where developers post ROMs, radios, and root instructions. We ran a contest last week where we gave away 20 licenses of WakeVoice. Time is now up and we’ve tallied all the entries to pick out those 20 lucky winners; some were handpicked for their creative and amusing comments, the rest was randomly chosen. All winners have gotten PMs with instructions to send Livven the IMEI (MEID for CDMA) code of their Android device, so the developer, ADNFX Mobile, can get them their license for the Android Market.

A few weeks ago we ran a contest asking users to submit videos telling us why they wanted to win one of two devices, the ASUS Transformer and Samsung Galaxy S II. A new year, a new Portal Admin, and now a new look to our Portal to round it all out! This refresh, several months in the making, is tuned for speed. It integrates more white space than the previous design as to provide a cleaner, more open feel. We now have better control over filtering content categories and features. Best of all, the Portal acts as a true portal by letting you login to the widget on the right and see your subscribed forums, threads, plus a PM preview box, without having to go into the forums. As many of you may be aware, we here at XDA-Developers occasionally stand in support of our members. All of you feel that you can submit things on the forums, knowing that the information is appreciated, used, and shared. We recently made some big upgrades to our search system on XDA. It now burdens our servers less (XDA users *really* like to search), provides improved results, and has a contextual search feature. The latter feature makes it super fast and easy to search for certain key terms on the XDA forums. Just highlight what you want to search for and you’ll see a little magnifying glass pop up. It has recently come to our attention that there is someone–using a domain very similar to xda-developers.com–operating a phishing scheme trying to steal the usernames and passwords of XDA users. The site is using a transparent proxy to access XDA and to essentially copy XDA page-for-page, URL-for-URL. This site, other than the small difference in domain, looks and feels exactly like XDA. Please always make sure you are on xda-developers.com (rather than xda-developers.com.xx, for example) before entering your password. The Samsung Galaxy R is a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II that is less expensive. Instead of the Super AMOLED Plus display, the Galaxy R has a Super Clear LCD at 4.27″ and WVGA resolution. The original Samsung Focus was one of the best Windows Phone 7 devices because it was fast, had a beautiful screen, and was very thin.
