EVO 3D Overclocked to 1.8 GHz
Seems that our devs are getting rather tired of waiting for HTC to do good on their promise to unlock the bootloader for the Sensation and the EVO 3D. So, since there is so much untapped power under the hood of these devices, they have started messing with the phones via alternate methods. One of the first things that you will likely see in any top of the line phone after it has been rooted is the fact that people will try to overclock the devices to some ridiculously high frequency. XDA member coolbho3000 is never the exception for these kind of matters. In this case, it seems that he was able to get a hold of an EVO 3D and started tweaking modules for kernels due to the fact that there are no sources available yet, and even if there were, the kernels cannot be flashed. So, the dev found an alternative in loading tweaked kernel modules. The end result is that he got the 3D capable phone to reach almost 1.8 GHz. As it is customary, he took a benchmark using Linpack and came back with roughly 90 MFLOPS, which is insanely high. The Sensation seems to also be able to reach this. However, since the dev does not have one or the sources, he stated that some have worked and some have not.
The process for applying this module is not as straight forward as you may be used to with kernels. However, it isn’t impossible either. Just make sure that you follow the instructions and you will likely get it to work without any major issue. Please leave your feedback if this tweak worked well for you.
HTC is taking far too long with their promised bootloader unlock! I got my hands on an EVO 3D and wrote a kernel module to overclock it (along with the Sensation, I think) with just temp root. I had no kernel sources or the ability to flash custom kernels, and you don’t need to overclock your phone, either. This was all done with a Linux loadable kernel module.
