I know I could have probably spent the time in doing a half decent Paint shop with the screenshot. However, I do believe that the Hydra metaphor pretty much speaks for itself regarding this current state of events. As it is customary before any iOS unveiling, Apple decided to launch an all out attack against one of its competitors. In this particular case, they went for a second wave of patent infringement lawsuits against HTC. According to a recent filing, it seems that Apple decided not to wait on the upcoming results of the first barrage of lawsuits and decided to fire another one. This one is on top of the on-going battles with Amazon, Samsung, as well as a few other companies (at this point, you should be able to understand the hydra analogy that I was referring to earlier). It seems that either Apple has too much money, free lawyers, or just flat out ran out of ideas on how to make their product more competitive in a market saturated by Android devices, which keep multiplying like rabbits.
This last point is a bit more obvious as the release of new Android devices is happening at a much faster pace than Apple releases and that has to be making a rather large dent on their market share. However, being litigious and looking desperate is not exactly the business model that you want to portray in front of your customers. I know that there are die hard Apple fans among our community and I also know that there are die hard anti-Apple fans in here as well. This series of legal moves by Apple has to be speaking volumes to the legions of people that are part of the mobile industry. HTC fired back with a statement where in essence they called the move by Apple a sad waste of money and resources that could be put towards improving their products.
Unfortunately, since the claims have not been released yet, it is hard to write a proper rant (I mean, let’s face it, what else can they claim? That they invented the touchscreen?). However, we would like to hear your thoughts on what is known so far and how you think that Apple will shift the playing field by doing what they are doing. Or better yet, by fighting against some of the biggest players in the industry, which in turn are being backed by the biggest companies (Google and Microsoft) in the world, all at once, do you believe Apple stands a chance? Please share your thoughts.
