Well, it looks as it will be a smooth sailing for the merger between the two US carriers AT&T and T-Mobile… or will it? According to a Public Notice published in the FCC website, the entity would like to get some feedback from someone else aside from the involved parties in the merger. This means that the are actually thinking of listening to the people who will be affected the most by this change… no, not Wall Street investors, not even employees for both companies. We are talking about the customer base. One of the biggest thing that will ultimately hurt or at least affect T-Mobile customers is the fact that their phones will not be able to connect to AT&T’s 3G data network as it operates on a different band, which most T-Mobile devices lack. This would effectively force you to purchase a new device that can take advantage of this network, if you want to be able to browse the web on a 3G connection. So, being as many will have a say in this, the FCC has decided to give people a voice. The first post in reddit.com, which where this was found, has instructions on how to voice your opinion on the matter.
From the looks of things, and according to some recent news, opinions are rather torn as the merger could indeed cause a monopoly within the GSM technology carriers in the US, and would certainly spell trouble for the other 2 giant Telecom companies Verizon and Sprint. Please raise your voice and let it be heard, whether you agree with this merger or not. And hurry because there is a deadline for submissions. Lastly, please share your thoughts.
