Outside The Big Tech Scene

What happens when you are not lucky enough to live in the UK or USA but love the tech mobile world? Well, I can tell you about that. As you know, most–if not all–news about applications, upcoming devices and so on, are announced in the aforementioned countries. Yes, they are the biggest markets in the world, but there´s more… world, right?

In my case, living in Mexico, being close to the Big Brother is not enough to get your hands on new devices or news, and that applies to almost all of the rest of the world. What is happening with the big brands? Are they not aware of the hundreds of millions of people out there that want to get the latest devices, too?

Now, we heard the big news about HTC entering the Mexican market, but do you know what they brought as their newest device? The HTC Inspire! Do you think we are idiots? Or are there other factors I’m not aware of? If so, please let us know, because the same thing is happening in many other not-so-lucky countries.

Globalization and the modern world? Yeah, right! I don’t see it here, do you? What I’m trying to say to the big players in this sector should have another look at new markets and not just follow the proven, no-risk formula.

For example, in Mexico you have to pay $635 USD for a Samsung Galaxy S2. Of course, this is on the Mexican eBay–off-contract, because it isn’t sold here. Another example, the Motorola Atrix costs $630 USD. And one more just for you, $430 USD for the HTC Inspire 4G.  By contrast, the cost for an HTC Incredible with a 2-year contract is $50 USD.  That’s not too bad. But the yearly income of a middle to upper-class household is $1,300 to $17,400 USD.  And the HTC Incredible–that’s the first one, not the HTC Incredible 2–isn’t even sold in the US anymore.

Markets like ours are over a year behind technologically, but only because companies don’t open up to us.  Instead of only launching all your devices in a single country to see how they sell, try launching one (just one!) current device in all the other countries and watch people flock to it. Work with our carriers, work with our governments, do whatever it takes. In Mexico, everyone uses Blackberries, and that will change sooner or later–it’s up to you when, and which company overtakes our market.  I’m sure you will see how fertile the soil is here.

Note that Mexico sits higher on the list than the UK, where all the latest devices are sold.

Whether you share this opinion or not, please leave your comments below.  Perhaps HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony, and the rest will read it and make a few changes.

Thanks for reading.
