Amidst all the Android frenzy caused by the release of the HTC One M9, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, Microsoft added its own offering, albeit non flagship, to the table with the announcement of the mid range duo of Lumia 640 and 640 XL. Marketed as being "Windows 10 ready", both these devices launch with Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box. Under the hood, they rock Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2 GHz Quad core CPU and...

Even though it is not officially supported on XDA yet, we found a guide created by XDA member Chandon, which describes a very detail process on how to root T-Mobile’s latest tablet (it is actually LG’s, but who keeps track of these things anyways?). The process is not too complicated but it will require you to perform the whole thing under a Linux environment because files must be mounted as ext4, which is not possible right now. The good news is that you could probably use Ubuntu without having to mess with installing a new OS (use Live CD or install Linux as an app under Windows). As you see, there is always hope.
The whole guide consists of a grand total of 19 steps (just a few more steps than your regular 1-click root methods). However, no one ever said that hacking a device is a simple feat. If nothing else, this should give you a good chance to play around with Linux before completely diving into your shinny new tablet.
Please post some feedback in the thread if this worked for you or if you have any suggestions to make the guide a bit easier.
This process works under Linux. The hard part under Windows would be mounting a file as an ext4 filesystem, but if you can do that you win.
