Langton’s Ant for Android

Here’s a new game for your Android device made by XDA member Simonmarky. As Wikipedia defines it, Langton’s ant is a two-dimensional Turing machine with a very simple set of rules but complicated emergent behavior. It was invented by Chris Langton in 1986 and runs on a square lattice of black and white cells. This simple rule leads to surprisingly complex behavior. After an initial period of apparently chaotic behavior, the ant starts building a recurrent “highway” pattern of 104 steps that repeat indefinitely. Here are some features of the game:

¤ Play/Pause/Clear buttons
¤ Modify the speed
¤ Change the size of the world and background color
¤ 35 predefined rules
¤ create your own rules

This is certainly something different for you to try. You can get it for free on the market in French and English languages, and it`s compatible with all screen resolutions and Android versions. It is hard to explain it, so go and test it and let us know your thoughts.

Langton’s Ant is actually a two-dimensional cell automaton that evolves by following very simple rules.
It was invented by scientist Christopher Langton in 1986 and helped to highlight an example of emergent behavior.

The two basic rules are:
¤ If the ant is on a black square, it turns right, changes the color to white and moves forward
¤ If the ant is on a white square, it turns left, changes the color to black and moves forward

These simple rules lead to a surprising behavior of the ant:
The ant builds a road that repeat indefinitely
