Google Now Backend Update Tells You When a Product You’ve Looked Up is Nearby

Over the last year, Google has been steadily bolstering the capabilities of its nearly telepathic Google Now service. With the most recent app update, Google Now gained the ability to automatically detect and keep track of where you’ve parked. However, not every increase in functionality requires a new Google Search APK.

Not too long ago, we talked about a Google Search backend update brought the ability to “take a picture,” as well as “play some music.” And before that, another backend update brought relationship-based contacts. Now thanks to another significant server-side update, Google Search is able to prompt you about products you’ve researched if they’re carried by a nearby store.

Unfortunately, the new Product Card only displays whether an item in your search history is carried by a particular store, rather than if it’s actually in stock at your particular location. It’s also currently not known how long or how many items Google keeps tabs on.

This new Product Card appears to be limited to the US at this time. That’s understandable, as it undoubtedly takes time to build up an inventory database. However, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this roll out to other areas in the not too distant future.

What are your thoughts on this new Product Card? Let us know in the comments below!

I/O Summary: Google Photos App

At I/O 2015, Google tackled the information problem in mobile once more, this time through pictures: “how incredible is it that we all have a camera in our pockets at any moment? (...)
