Google Search Now Also Fetches Your Rental Car Reservations
Although we didn’t really have a typical “Update Wednesday” this week, Google has more than made up for it with a complete Google+ UI overhaul and previous updates to Google Voice Search that gave it the ability to set a timer when asked and set reminders entirely by voice. However, that isn’t all that Google had in store for us this week.
In addition to the previously covered upgrades to Google Voice Search functionality, Google issued yet another backend Search update today that makes it possible to fetch rental car reservation information by simply asking your device “when is my rental car reservation.” This falls in line with previously added functionality to that fetched flight reservations in Google Search and restaurant reservations in Google Maps. And naturally, this information is pulled from your connected Gmail account just like the previous feature additions. As stated on Google’s Google+ page:
When you can’t remember whether you’ve booked a car rental for your next work trip—or you simply can’t remember which company you booked with—don’t bother fussing with your email confirmations and just ask Google. Tap the mic on the Google Search app and say “When is my rental car reservation?” If the info is in your Gmail, you’ll see a quick reservation summary including location, pick-up and drop-off time.
As was the case with the previous two updates seen earlier today, this update is delivered transparently to the user through a backend Google Search update. However, as was the case before, this will certainly not be available in every region and/or language. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if most major markets are already integrated or receive integration shortly.
