Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

ToFClock - sad news
Ladies and gents,
I have the terribly sad news to report that our colleague and dear friend, ToFClock, passed away on Friday 13th, 2007. This shocking and unexpected news will hit the community, and the many many friends and admirers he has earned in his years with us, extremely hard.
His family are grieving. His sister has written to Buzz and informed him of the terrible news. His mother is of course heart broken.
Feel free to express your condolences here or on Buzzdev. Please be respectful - we will inform his family of our best wishes and regards, and they will be able to read your personal messages to them here.
Watch out for each other guys: this is a very close community and we rely on each other.
A dear friend will be missed.

ToFClock was a major asset to our community. His research and work have both dramatically contributed to the PDA industry. I'm so sorry to see the loss of such a valuble member and a brother of our community. I send my warmest and sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

I'v never talked to ToFClock or read any of his posts because I am new, but nobody deserves to go through such sadness, so may my wishes be with all the family and friends. From what I've read he seems like an amazing person, who has probably helped many others in his spare time within this community.

it says on buzzdev: 'Decided to end his life', is it just poor english or an indication that he took his own life?
Whatever happened my condolences go out to his friends and family, i hardly knew him but i had heard good things about both him and his work, im sure he will be missed.

Mike - yes, we know a bit about what happened to him. Speak to J, she'll tell you a bit more. Speak to Buzz too... It's hitting him hard.
It's quite sad, at least what little we know, and as delude says, nobody should have to go through such sadness.
Midget, unfortunately the message on Buzzdev is true, and only makes it even harder to understand and to contemplate.
Guys, seriously, not being soft or anything, but don't ever let yourself get too down. There are always people here who will want to help, to give you a hand, guidance, friendship, or whatever. Just know that you can ask....

I would just like all of us to remember him for the person he was and what he offered to everyone. Please don't spend time on details of how, when what. I know you might be curious, but please think these are hard time for friends and family and lets concentrate on paying our respects to a dear friend who will not be forgotten.
We miss you Tof.

I regret that I never had the pleasure of knowing him to the extent as many others within the community.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I am silenced. A link to his posts would be nice.
Without grief there is no blues. Condolences.
