Samsung's last few flagships have fallen short of expectations by a wide margin, with the South Korean manufacturer, more often than not, finding itself vastly overshadowed by other flagships. Contrastingly, this year's flagship was the result of Samsung turning over a new life and coming out all guns blazing with the S6 and S6 Edge, and despite the lack of a mainstream Qualcomm processor, each passing day marks another step towards Samsung regaining its former glory.

Both the 2015 flagships pack impressive hardware in an elegant housing, and with Samsung themselves doing almost everything right this time around, dubious eyes turned to the modding community, certain that the devices' run of good fortune wouldn't continue into this sphere, given the in-house Exynos processor and Knox protection. However, fair winds still favor the S6, as earlier today, XDA Member idler1984 successfully achieved root on the device, without tripping Knox warranty since it doesn't require Odin to flash a custom recovery. Labelled PingPong root, the tool is still in the initial beta phase, but supports a wide variety of ROM variants. The process is fairly straightforward, requiring you to download a single app and click a button in it, following which, the tool proceeds to complete the process automagically.

As of now, PingPong root only supports the Galaxy S6, but idler1984 has stated that the team behind the tool will look into other arm64 devices soon, such as the S6 Edge, HTC M9 and LG G Flex 2. Head over to the thread to get started with rooting your S6, and if using a beta tool isn't your cup of tea, subscribe to the thread and stay tuned for future releases.
