QuickClick Lets You Assign Actions to a Sequence of Volume Button Clicks

The touch screens on our modern devices provide a nearly unbeatable level of versatility and UI freedom. However, it’s often still a bit easier to press a physical button than it is to futz around with virtual keys.

Many of our readers may be a bit too young to remember, but back in the days of Windows Mobile, there was a fantastic app by XDA Senior Member Hundera called HButton that allowed users to map various tasks and apps to a device’s hardware buttons. Now, this concept has been brought the to world of Android thanks to QuickClick by XDA Senior Member bluenote73.

Just like its spiritual predecessors, QuickClick allows you to assign certain commands or applications to your hardware volume keys. But since you only have two volume keys, there can only be two commands, right? Wrong. QuickClick actually allows you to set up pre-defined sequences of volume button clicks for individual applications. These can be as simple as just Volume Up, Volume Down, or quite complicated with many button presses.

QuickClick works with the screen on or off, and supports both commands and applications, so it is useful in a wide variety of situations. For example, imagine that you normally leave auto brightness disabled to not use up much battery and you step outside and can’t see the screen. Rather than desperately search for shade in order to be able to see your screen and then enable auto brightness, simply execute your predefined button combination from either a screen-on or screen-off state.
