XDA DevCon 13 Logo

So it’s been a week  since XDA:DevCon 13 passed, and I am still blown away by the excitement, energy, and community that flowed out of the event. With top-notch speakers and sponsors giving their all, and a hotel staff that was committed to making sure everything went smoothly, there was hardly a chance for Uncle Murphy (the bad luck icon, not our amazing opening speaker Mark Murphy) to make an appearance.

Going into this event I didn’t know what to expect—much like when you and your significant other find yourselves expecting a child, you spend months planning something, but you still don’t know what is really in store. Is it going to come out looking like this or more like this?

So many exciting things happened, some of which XDA TV Producer Jordan Keyes spoke about in his recap last week, while others will probably never see the light of day (but have something to do with a dancing video bomb, crazy developer drink shots, and a dancing penguin, to name a few). One thing’s for certain though: without the support of the XDA community, and willingness to take a risk and show up to a new conference, this would have never been a success. Also, a big thanks goes out to XDA Staff, Sponsors, and Speakers who made it possible for this baby to be born.

It’s with that in mind that I want to give a shout out to those sponsors below. Without each and every one of them, XDA:DevCon would not have had the amazing giveaways and allow us the ability to serve amazing food during the conference. We thank you for your commitment and willingness to join us at our first ever developer conference.

One of the most popular forums on XDA as of late is the Samsung Galaxy S4 and its US carrier variants (T-Mobile, Sprint and their bootloader-locked siblings on AT&T and Verizon). This is with good reason, as the device boasts top-of-the-line specs as well as pretty heavy backing from a marketing machine around the world. What is of great benefit to you, the user community, is that accessories (like cases) are interchangeable across the variants. And that’s where our partner CruzerLite comes in.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, not only have you missed some great seasons of Doctor Who and The Big Bang Theory, but you’ve probably missed the emergence of CruzerLite as one of the premier suppliers for Android-related merchandise. Back in December of last year we embarked on a great partnership with them to make XDA-branded cases and apparel, with the express desire that we not make anything from the sales, instead passing on the savings to you – the community.

That continues with the recent addition of the Galaxy S4 to the lineup of molded-case offerings from CruzerLite in black, green, and smoke. Made of scratch-resistant material, these fit like a glove and protect your precious device from all manners of perils as a result of your travels. And while you may think this type of case would cost you a pretty penny, it can be yours for $14 plus flat rate shipping of $4. That’s an extraordinary deal for keeping your expensive device in pristine condition.

But CruzerLite hasn’t stopped there. They recently unveiled our own storefront found at store.xda-developers.com, making it simple for you to find all of the XDA-related merchandise you desire all in one place. So make sure you visit the storefront and show your support for XDA and CruzerLite.

DSC_0074A while back, we took a poll on which handset we should add to the list of XDA merchandise. After a few months of discussion, and honestly just having a lot going on, we’re ready to announce the winning selections for addition to our XDA case lineup with CruzerLite. READ ON »

Last week we let you know about the slick, new HTC One molded XDA cases and the competition Cruzerlite was running to give away 10 of them. Well, it’s time to announce the winners. READ ON »

XDA encourages collaboration between developers and within the community, so it’s only fair that we seek out opportunities to do so ourselves. Working with the fine folks at Cruzerlite is just such an example. We’ve done some great shirts and a good assortment of cases for the top devices out there, and the response from the community has been spectacular.

Now, we are happy to announce a new case to add to the collection: the HTC One XDA Molded Case. The cases are molded into high-quality TPU to provide the most protection while remaining amazingly thin. The sleek, lightweight design of the case fully wraps around the HTC One, while at the same time raising the front of the phone to protect the screen when face down. These affordable cases are flexible, easy to apply, and easy to remove. They come in several different colors, allowing you to choose the case that fits you as well as it fits the phone. Or, for the hipsters out there, you can have a case for each social situation you might find yourself in.

To really launch this new case, Cruzerlite is giving away ten (10) $14 gift cards and will throw in free shipping. All you have to do is follow @xdadevelopers and @cruzerlite, and then tweet what your first smartphone was with the hashtag #xdacruzerlite. So something like this:

@xdadevelopers @cruzerlite my first smartphone was the Palm OS Samsung i500. #xdacruzerlite

Ten winners will be chosen by Cruzerlite on Friday. So get out there and show your support for the largest mobile development community in the world!

crowd·sourc·ing

noun \ˈkrau̇d-ˌsȯr-siŋ\   : the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people and especially from the online community rather than from traditional employees or suppliers

At XDA, you could say we specialize in crowdsourcing. You could even say that we had it perfected before it became hip. Our developers routinely participate in Open Source projects, which epitomize the very definition of crowdsourcing. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that we are seeking your input into something carrying the XDA-Developers brand.

Thanks to CruzerLite, XDA has been selling some great t-shirts and cases at phenomenal prices. In fact, things are going so well that we’ve decided to crowdsource the logo design for the next set of cases and shirts. So here is the deal:

  • Submit a logo to shirt@xda-developers.com by midnight (GMT-8) on February 28, 2013.
  • You must include your XDA userID in order for us to adequately attribute you to your image
  • The logo must be at least 300 dpi and in a recognized vector format (i.e. PNG, PSD, SVG).
  • You must utilize at least “xda” in the logo included at the bottom of this post, though it does not need to stay in the same color scheme.

Once all entries have been collected, we will begin the process of voting by opening that up to the community as well. XDA reserves the right to pre-screen entries to make sure that all copyright logos, fonts, names, trademarks, and little ponies are removed. The winner will get their design featured on a special, upcoming batch of cases and shirts at CruzerLite. In addition, CruzerLite will throw in a few extra goodies.

Now let your creative juices flow!

At the end of last year, we started selling XDA cases with our friends at CruzerLite, and we’ve seen some phenomenal interest. Our current lineup is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and the Google Nexus 4—but we want to add more. So we have decided to hold a poll and let the users choose which device(s) to add to our current lineup.

Below you will find some of the top devices at XDA. Please choose one from the list that you would like to see offered, and we will pick from the top 3 devices. The voting ends on February 15, so make sure you place your vote for the devices you love!

EDIT: The results are in, and displayed below. We’ll keep you updated as to the final options when they become available.

XDA Cases Ready to Ship

January 4, 2013   By:

Before the holidays, we shared exciting news about XDA working with CruzerLite to put together some XDA merchandise. We’ve just received some fantastic news: The XDA cases for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and Google Nexus 4 are ready to start shipping out! You can see how great they look below.

The shirts have already been shipping, and we welcome your thoughts on how you like them, along with your comments about the cases when those who ordered them start receiving them. If you haven’t already ordered a case or a shirt, make sure you visit the XDA page on CruzerLite.

With XDA membership coming up on 5 million users worldwide, we wanted to give you the opportunity to show your support for this vibrant, ever-changing community. After the BigAndroidBBQ it was obvious who we needed to work with to provide XDA members with shirts, cases, and other merchandise to help you show your love for the site. We contacted the great people over at Cruzerlite, who have done a wonderful job getting this going. Beginning today we are offering t-shirts (long- and short-sleeved as well as female-specific) and some great cases for some pretty popular devices: the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy S III (including carrier variants), Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (including carrier variants), and the Google Nexus 4.

We want to make sure that costs are kept as low as possible for all of the community, so XDA is making nothing off of the sale of the merchandise. This means that you can get some absolutely high-quality cases for your phone for only $10, and long- and short-sleeved shirts for $12 and $10. The cases are currently open for pre-order, with shipping scheduled to begin in the next 4-6 weeks. You can visit store.xda-developers.com and purchase a shirt or get your case pre-order started, and keep tabs on the other things we have cooking up with the CruzerLite team that are soon to follow.
