Icons contained in the Framework-Res.apk File

For those who are budding developers, tools that help make the process a little easier to understand and a little faster to learn are always welcome. And, of course, all the respect to the pioneers of Android development who had to learn without nifty tools like these.

XDA Member wesf90 is among the most recent to contribute to the rich, and immense, list of tools to help developers out with his, as he puts it, “snazzy” tool called Framework Flasher.

Here’s a description of the tool and it’s use from wesf90:

It extracts your framework-res.apk file and allows you to edit the files. After editing, the script will compile, sign the apk, create your update.zip with the correct structure for flashing, and then sign the .zip. Everything you need to modify and flash your framework-res.apk file.

While it hasn’t been tested with those pesky .9 png files yet, wesf90 has stated that he’ll add the functionality if it’s requested enough.

Currently, it’s posted in the Motorola Droid X2, but it seems as though this is compatible with more phones than that and could make its way over to the Android Development and Hacking section eventually. Additionally, the thread is being used for bug reports as well as requests. So if you’re an aspiring themer, developer or if you just want to head over and check it out, follow the link above for additional information and download links.

Motorola-Droid-X-Android-2.2-Froyo

As you may already be aware of, Verizon announced that the Motorola Droid X will be receiving a little treat for its users. The Froyo update will start rolling out on 9/22 at Noon Eastern Time. The release will include the following enhancements:

  • Adobe Flash Player 10.1.
  • Faster loading of Java Heavy pages (JIT Compiler).
  • Automatic App Updates.
  • Google Maps Performance Upgrade.
  • Improved Exchange ActiveSync.
  • Attachment of Video Files to MMS Messages.
  • Seamless 3G to WiFi switching.
  • WiFi Hotspot application.

These updates were expected and the enhancements are pretty standard across all Android phones running 2.2. Hopefully, this will lead to some more full rooting possibilities and exploits, Enjoy the Froyo!

Having an easy to use keyboard makes the difference when you are considering replying to the message received from your best friend. Well, it seems the HTC Aria users do not have to make that hard choice anymore thanks to XDA member jasonyump. This amazing new keyboard from the new Droid X for Verizon has been making its way across all Android devices, and the Aria just recently received the software.

The improvements are not too significant, but it seems many are in love with it and its multi-touch support.

Tested On Stock Rooted Rom And Liberated Rom.
works great!

The Droid X is the latest in Motorola technology, with an HD2 esque 4.3 inch display. The device has some very nice specifications, and so I am sure by that having all that hardware, you probably want some good, quality entertainment to go with it. This game that was recently ripped by XDA member LegionTHEFecalExcretion, and it has just been posted in the Droid X forum, and anyone with the device can pretty much get their hands on it.

The game is full sized, but you will need to pay to get the full experience since it is a demo. The full size of the game is around 99MB, which is roughly the size of a standard Windows Mobile ROM, but think about it, with those awesome graphics and a SD card to take the memory, why not do it?

If you have the need, the need for speed, then race to the forum to get a bit of the experience for yourself.

Many people seem to want different parts of the upcoming Droid X. Well, it seems that the Nexus One owners want the device’s keyboard. Thework performed by XDA member tr.slate, allows you to enjoy the keyboard on your N1, or at least for the most part, considering its still in the Beta WIP (work in progress) phase.

DESCRIPTION:
The Droid X Keyboard features full multi-touch. This is different from the multi-touch currently enabled on 3rd party keyboards-the Droid X has the capability to hold down shift and press a letter to make a capital, ie it can do more than one key stoke at once like a physical keyboard. Pretty nice.
