The importance of good and appropriate graphics for your development work is undeniable. Be it an app, a ROM, a tool, or a mod; you’ll probably want to invest a good amount of time and effort into such factors because if the ‘icon’ sucks, the potential user may infer the same for your work. However, not everyone will be adept to create absolute masterpieces, which is why XDA Recognized Developer neroyoung‘s tutorials are much appreciated.
What neroyoung has done is guide users on how to edit images with the software GIMP, a free and open-source alternative to the popular Adobe Photoshop. The guides come in the form of videos hosted on YouTube, and they visually guide users on how to edit grayscale, indexed, and RGB images of both PNG and 9PNG file extensions. They also cover how to batch process images with common actions such as sharpening, cropping, and many more. Furthermore, the guides cover how to install custom brushes similar to what is available for Photoshop.
The videos are quite short in length, both under 8 minutes, but nevertheless they still cover the necessary steps clearly and at a sane pace. Accompanying subtitles of extra instructions aid the process. The series so far consist of two videos, and we hope to see more in the future.
If you need a kick-start with some graphics editing, make sure to check out the guide thread.

Graphics can be hard to come by if you don’t have any money. Either they cost a lot and look really cool or they cost nothing, look really cool but the artist is up to their eye balls in requests.
To help take the load of the free graphics artists, XDA Member Xperiment2012 has started a thread where members can order up free custom graphics. Why, you may ask? Says Xperiment2012:
I am making free GFX for anyone who wants one. I am not a PRO and this is mainly an entertaining way for me to practice and also offer a service to the community. If you would like one please fill out the form below and I’ll get on theme ASAP. If you do not like what is done please give me ideas on how to improve it so you do.
Pros come from people who aren’t pros who practice often, and this being XDA, there will likely be a nice variety of graphics for Xperiment2012 to make. The order form is relatively simple:
So if you’ve been looking for a cool graphic for your ROM, or for your signature or if you just want some cool graphics, you can hit up the original thread to place your request.

Lately, we have seen many mods and themes for some of the most used applications on our Android devices and to extend the list of available mods even more, we found one set created by XDA member fernando sor, who has been theming apps and such for over a year. His latest work includes transparent themes for Pandora, XDA app, Gmail 2.3.5, Google Voice, Market and Facebook. Moreover, the developer takes it even further by adding colors to the transparent versions of the aforementioned bunch of apps. You can find the accents in blue, cyan, orange, red, pink, emerald and black clear. In order to install them, just be sure to follow the procedure.
Which one do you prefer? Please let us know by leaving your comments.

3.0.27 Android Market
Special thanks to badseed themer silverxbv2 for porting my theme to 3.0.27!
Google got this update right. Im only putting out one version. the colors that represent the music, games and books section im leaving. my goal was to remove the android color that looks like overcooked broccoli that for some reason they find appealing.
I did add blue and cyan to the app.
i tested this on my dinc running cm7. it installed no problem. i even tried to install it with no market present and it installed fine. i did not have to alter the manifest in this version.
for those who have been silently updated!
this is the method i used to get the market running on cm7.1
1) go to settings/applications and navigate to the market. select uninstall updates.
2) uninstall the market with titanium backup
3) go to data/data. if you have a com.android.vending delete it.
4) if you have com.android.vending updater in data/data delete it.
5) go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
6) flash the stock 3.0.27 market and open it. ( it will be posted on 7/21/2001 in the evening)
7) flash the themed market

This time we won´t write about any application, tweak, or trick. This time we wanted to show you what members have been posting all around XDA. There are threads for many devices where the community has provided screenshots of how they have set up their home screen. You can find some amazing stuff people have done to make their homescreens beautiful and personal. Hopefully some of these ideas will inspire you to create your very own look.
You can find these threads in most Themes and Apps sections around XDA. Here some examples of them for you to enjoy:
Have you found another one? Please share it with us by leaving a comment below.
Thanks to svetius for the idea
How many of you are using a personalized image on your home screen? I bet the vast majority of us have something “special”. For those of you always looking for a great wallpaper, we have found a great pack from XDA member kanak122. This is the second pack from the original poster and this time, he has included 21 live wallpapers with assorted themes and topics ranging from Christmas to abstract, and from colors to galaxies.
You can get them for free in the original thread and as always, we ask for your feedback.

It has been a while since we have seen an original skin design work. This time, XDA member scar45 presents PCB Sense for our Android devices. This skin will completely change your home screen by giving it a PCB look, showing in the center a processor with the Android logo.
This series of skins can be found in five different colors: purple, pink, green, blue, and orange and they will work with all Sense 2.x ROMs. Hopefully, we can convince dev to make future versions supporting Sense 3.0.
Please leave your feedback for the developer.

I have recently been playing around with the Sense 2.1 + Gingerbread (aka GingerSense) ROMs, and had to of course port (and improve) my original PCB Sense Theme from days ago. I have been testing it myself for quite a few days, and I’m finally happy with how it turned out, so I wanted to offer it up to all GingerSense XDA users.
Couple of things to note:
This design was meant to be close to stock for those who actually dig the Sense scheme, but want something unique
The file is a 7.7mb signed .APK created using apk-manager 4.9 for Sense 2.1…I may make a Sense 3.0 port if there is enough demand (need to play with .m10 editing still)
It is installable by simply copying to your device and running, and is uninstallable by Titanium Backup, or applying another Skin in Sense, and highlighting PCB Sense, then MENU –> DELETE…it doesn’t appear in “Settings –> Applications”, but why would you want to uninstall it anyways?

Perhaps you are one of those members who would love to have a bit of Windows Phone 7 on your Android device. If so, then XDA member abhi0n0nakul gives you the WP7 boot screen animation. The boot screen is presented in three different options: With Android engraved, basic, and original one for WVGA (HDPI) screen resolutions. Moreover, you will find a QVGA (LDPI) version but this one only comes as the original one.
You will need your device to be rooted in order to get it working and the developer also places an easy how-to in case you want to revert back to your previous boot screen. Please leave your feedback.

for qvga screens: wp7 bootanimqvga.zip
how to apply?:::::
option1: place it to data/local via root explorer and give all permissions(if s-off) and reboot
option 2: place to data/local via adb:
Installing custom boot animations (Credit to jcase from XDA):
1.) Download the desired animation, rename the zip file to “bootanimation” and move into your Android SDK/Tools folder.
2.) Run the following adb command to push the animation into the proper place:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/

A few weeks ago I published an article for the first official desktop XDA-Developers wallpaper pack, featuring a collection of different widescreen sizes.
We received a lot of feedback on them, including compalints about a “white bar” down the right side of each wallpaper. I’m happy to say that this has now been fixed. We also received requests for dual monitors, which has now been done in a variety of different sizes, too.
All wallpapers are provided optimised for widescreen monitors. A 4:3 development might be something we include in the next update of this pack, if it’s requested enough. For now, if you are experiencing any issues with the wallpapers, leave them in the comments below and we’ll do our best to fix them as soon as possible!
You can download the wallpapers here.
Since all this G+ madness started, some have already gotten their invitations and some have not. Judging from it, Google+ could be a good contender for Facebook as the king of social media. However, this is yet to be seen.
In the meantime, XDA member Alankrut posted a way to have your profile picture -avatar- in Google style. The developer created this template using Paint, which all Windows using members will be familiar with. A photoshop compatible version will be added later on.
Instructions to get your own profile picture template are easy, just follow the 8 steps indicated by the developer and voilà!
Please don´t forget to leave some feedback.

This Template is made using “Paint.net”, for those of you that don’t know what that is, Think Photoshop but a freeware. I will make a Photoshop compatible version later.
I have attached some samples.
I will update this to allow changing of placement of the Google+ icon and Photoshop support later in the future, if you guys want it.
Follow me on Twitter to get up-to-date on when i update this or you can send me suggestions.

Are you a Sense 3.0 user who’s become a bit jealous of all the T-Mo Theme Engine threads here on XDA? Well fear not, as XDA forum member cypis has just released a wonderful new theme intended for use with any Sense 3.0 device.
Offering elegance and improved scrolling performance, Slate3Duniversal has much in store for anyone willing to test it out. In the words of the theme creator:
Hello. I missed a little after cool slate theme from 2.1 Sense ROMs so I decided to make it myself.
This is not cheap and EMO theme with thousands of colors . Just pure elegance in 3D (screenshot’s in second post).
Its intended to work on ALL Sense 3.0 devices even on ports.
Continue on to the theme thread to knock some Sense into your ROM. Since this is still actively being updated, leave some feedback while you’re at it!
Today has been a pretty eventful and exciting day with site announcements. First with our announcement of the new and extremely quick auto-QR Code system now being applied to all thread attachments, and now this.
There’s something I’ve felt has been missing from XDA for a very long time. Recently, considering my position on XDA TV, our sister-video show, I’ve had a screenshot of the opening titles as my wallpaper, displaying the title ‘xdadevelopers’ for all to see. Unfortunately, there’s a reason that I was forced to do this as opposed to having a high quality and high resolution version. It didn’t exist.
After I made this discovery, I promptly shot an email over to our delightful user experience admin, Svetius, who instructed me to ‘get on that’ as soon as possible. After being sent the neccesary resource files, I ‘got on that’ and processed a collection of ‘priceless’ and official XDA Developers wallpapers. Revelations!
What’s the best bit? They’re available for download, right now. Don’t say that we don’t spoil you. However, they are currently only available in 16:9 (widescreen) and not 4:3 (not… widescreen). If you’re living in the 21st century, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue for you.
If you’d like to download the collection, head on over to the download link.
Android themes are starting to come almost as frequent as we see them on WM platform. This time XDA member chancellorr presents this nice theme for your Android device with Metamorph, and as it´s name says is a very simple and clean theme. New icons can be found on the version 1.1 update that also fixes some bugs present on version one.
For those of you who don´t know about MetaMorph, it allows you to apply themes, patches, and mods to your phone by adding or changing files in an apk/jar file and by replacing files in any Directory.
MetaMorph doesn’t work with market apps, working only if you have a rooted phone, and BusyBox needs to be installed as well.

If you are using ADW, for some the best and fastest launcher, XDA member JAguirre1231 presents this nice collection of themes to personalize your Android device. All themes are presented in two versions, one using Sense icons and the second one using Slide icons.
You can find seven themes to choose from, all very colorful and well designed, taken from HTC images and adapted by the developer to work with ADW.
This is the first release and some bugs must be present, so please report back so future versions can be fixed.

I want to stress that these themes are [MDPI] Only .
A .zip is linked at the bottom which holds all of the themes. Each theme has two separate versions, one using the Sense application icons, the other using the slide application icons.
The themes are of the stock Slide themes (Nest, Hoops, LightShow, Wildflower, Surf, Nature, and Palazzo) made from images by HTC (I only made them compatible with ADW).
You can find more information in the theme’s thread.
