Not too long ago, we brought you coverage of the HTC EVO 3D HBoot downgrade, which allowed users to finally rid themselves of HBoot 1.5 and achieve true s-off status. And as expected, it’s taken off like wildfire. Since then, users and developers alike have breathed new life into the HTC EVO 3D forums, as now users can do whatever they want to their phones.

HTC users occasionally have to use some interesting methods to flash what they want onto newer devices. From risky methods of downgrading their bootloader to applications that have to flash kernels, device hacking isn’t always straight forward. To help make this a bit easier, XDA Recognized Developer drellisdee has posted a tool that allows HTC owners to look at, and change, their Main Version.
The tool allows users to lower their Main Version to allow the flashing of older RUUs, which could help downgrade Android versions and HBoots if used properly. The well known website www.htcdev.com is slowly becoming the go to website for HTC users who want to unlock their bootloaders and get s-off on their bootloaders. However, sometimes there are easier ways for people who don’t want to register their device with HTCdev and want to have the option to retain their warranty.
It is with this in mind that XDA Member shadi22 has posted a method that allows users carrying the HTC Desire S to downgrade from the latest hboot version so that they can attain s-off without all the hassle of the website.

S-OFF. Those five characters represent the world to power users. They represent the ability to do whatever you want, whenever you want, without the OEM holding you down.
For many a GSM EVO 3D user, those few characters seemed unattainable. HTC had locked the HBOOT and downgrading seemed impossible. As the months passed, hope seemed lost…
Fortunately for them, a clever chap by the name of navrasis refused to give in. After much research he cracked the code, err…blocks in this case. You see with a little creativity (and a hex editor) he managed to beat the system. See for yourself here.
