Ok, so a few hours ago we learned that the Samsung Galaxy S2 was successfully rooted. Well, since you are probably already done installing and using all those wonderful restricted apps that only being rooted would allow you to use, we need to give you something else to take your mind from the real world. We are proud to announce the very first flashable theme for the Hercules, which is brought to you by XDA member mongo41. We figured that it was a first for the device, so it was just good timing to present this over here. The theme in itself is a smooth black theme with minimalist glossy icons to give that extra touch of “suave”. The instructions to flash this are included in the thread as well, so if you have a custom recovery already loaded on your device, you are a flash away from enjoying this theme.

Please leave some feedback about bugs and whether you would change anything or not.

Hello fellow flashoholics. Now that we have root its time to get some Roms and Themes going. I dont do Roms but I do some theming. Make sure you download the Blackfroyo Icon zip if you want my style of icons. Also make sure you make a nandroid backup in cwm before you flash.

You can find more information in the original thread.

If you just went into a T-Mobile store thinking “hmm.. that SGS2 looks tempting but I really want to be able to mod the daylights out of it”, well, now is your chance. According to a thread started by XDA Recognized Developer |Melvin| root was achieved by slayher over at RW. You will now be able to attend to all your nodding cravings easily and flash your heart away through Odin and Heimdall. But wait! That’s not all because as a result of this successful root, XDA member bubby323 was able to dump the stock kernel of the device. We know that the source is available on Samsung, but having the original one handy is the perfect way to be able to recover from a soft brick (that is until AdamOutler comes out with the Unbrickable Mod for this device).

Now, you can go back to that store and get the device that you were craving. Be sure to leave some feedback for both devs in case you run into issues.

What we have here is a stock boot.img (imagine that Samsung changing things up again on us) pulled from a rooted (via recovery) T-Mobile SGH-T989 (Samsung Galaxy S II).

With this you can recover your phone using ODIN, in the case of a brick or just to return to a factory state.

You can find more information in the root thread here and in the kernel thread here.

Advertisment
Samsung-Hercules-_1

With the release of the latest addition to the Galaxy S2 family, Samsung is yet once again proving that they are trying their hardest to commit their involvement in the development community. With the previous two installments (for AT&T and Sprint), we saw that the Korean manufacturer dropped the sources for both kernel and platform almost immediately after release (and in the case of the Epic 4G Touch, it was on the same day). It seems that people getting the Hercules (SGS2 version for T-Mobile USA) also got the special treatment that Vibrant owners could only dream of back in the SGS days. XDA member bubby323 points us to the fact that the sources surfaced on Samsung’s site in all of their downloadable glory. So, if you were waiting to see if any development would be done on this behemoth, I think it may be fair to say that it will happen. At the very least, the needed tools to do anything at all are out there.

If you want to get your hands dirty or simply want to monitor what others do, please step into the Hercules area to find out more.

The kernel and platform source have both just dropped on Samsung’s website.

You can find more information in the original thread.

Well, it looks like the SGS2 family is finally complete. Each and every device from Samsung’s new line up finally has a place they can call home on xda-developers. The latest entry into this party is T-Mobile’s version of the SGS2, which went on sale not too long ago. The device, code named Hercules, gets its name from the obvious gigantic 4.5 inch Super AMOLED+ screen, which is one of the largest available for a mobile phone (without going into the Dell Streak 5, that is). Other features include a beefy, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon dual core processor, which clocks higher (stock) than its brethren, the (currently) mandatory 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and a very hefty 1850 mAh battery, allowing you to enjoy your device without charging for a bit longer than you are used to. As an added bonus, you get to enjoy Android 2.3.6 from stock, which is almost the latest release of Gingerbread (currently 2.3.7). Being larger does not seem to hurt it in the weight department either, so you end up with a rather slick, light, and very powerful device if you decide to go that route.

If you already have one and would like to share your findings so far, please be sure to stop by the forums to see what’s cooking!

You can visit the Samsung Hercules in its home on xda right here.
