CHT Widget

Not too long ago, we saw the release of Cookie’s Home Tab 2.0, which among the multitude of options, improvements, fixes, and more, also came with the option of adding custom widgets to the already feature rich UI addon. XDA member ZaxXx has started development for this and just finished the first version of his first widget, which is a calculator. Those of you who use HTC widgets in your Android devices will agree that having the calculator in the home screen can indeed be quite useful.

Due to some technical knowledge in cab generation, the dev is yet to be able to release this widget. So, if you know a way to help the dev create the cab for easy installation of this widget, drop by the thread and give the dev a hand. This way, the next widgets will be released much faster than this as he will not be running into such issues.

Hi all,

I’m a huge CHT fan and I’m very interested in creating custom widgets. There’s very little informations about widgets development, but after hours of playing with sources and restarting Sense many times, I’ve finally created a simple (but working) calculator widget.

Unfortunately, I have some problems with creating a CAB, I don’t know which tool to use (they all seem too complicated for my needs), I don’t know what to do with the setup.dll file and I don’t know if the .mode9 file needs to be renamed to something unique. Therefore there’s still no release from me, but I hope some CHT developer will give me some hints as Co0kieMonster is not responding to my PMs (he seems to be really busy as I’m waiting for a reply for more than week). I’ll release the calculator widget as soon as I get enough info about how to create a CAB properly!

Making a time travel trough the infinite threads floating around we found WaitCursor, an application created by XDA member Marshall07 that will let you change the wait cursor on your Windows Mobile device. A big collection of many different style icons to change your actual cursor can be found on the developer’s original thread. You can even create your own wait cursor.
Despite the app is quite old still has good acceptance from members with newer devices. Working on WM6.5 and up for VGA and QVGA resolutions.

Are you bored with your Windows Mobile dialer canvas? It´s true that not much has been done about that and we still have a WM6 style on newer devices. XDA member RR33 presents this dialers based on Dinik and Anastasia styles.
The developer dialers collection are working on VGA and WVGA resolution devices like the HTC Topaz, Leo, Blackstone, and Rhodium, but should work on other devices with same resolutions as well.

INSTALL : Unzip the file if it’s an archive then install the cab of your choice and soft reset.
If you have any trouble then uninstall the cab & soft reset.
If a cab refuses to uninstall (this could happen when 2 cabs share the same files) then re-install it, soft reset and return to “remove programs” menu : if the cab is still there in the list then you’ll be able to uninstall it now

WM Black Kandi Theme for WA3

October 6, 2010   By:

Screen04-1

On our main page we always try to bring you the latest news on what´s happening around the big world of XDA, but from time to time we discover some stuff that perhaps is not new but is worth to mention on our portal. This time we bring back a nice theme created by XDA member earni.
An actual and different look on this theme regarding the upper bar for those using previous versions of Manila, you have all the normal information such as battery meter, signal, etc but on a completely different style. Working on VGA and WVGA resolutions running WM6.1 and up.

Here we have Black Kandi for WVGA Devices Portrait and Landscape supported. I have included both ‘VOLUME’ and ‘LOUD’ buttons in both states, use whichever you prefer.

Requires Wisbar Advanced 3.
When in portrait, you will probably need to disable the clock because if you have more than 4 icons showing the clock goes over the top of the start button. Works fine in landscape though. This is my first full WA3 theme so lots of feedback would be much appreciated.

Originally made VGA now i have added a WVGA version for you people with better devices

Please note i only have a VGA Device but this theme is for WVGA

Aside from making quite a few announcements and updates regarding the upcoming final version of CHT 2.0.0, XDA member Co0kieMonster just provided the community with everything that is needed to have more development for CHT. The dev provided a widget kitchen and a very detailed manual for experienced devs. This will allow people to develop new things for Sense (CHT) and maybe even improve on already existing ones. Keep in mind that some previous knowledge on Manila and lua are required as they are not covered at all in the guide.

Moreover, a dev group has been made available for devs to join. However, this is by invitation only. Do you have anything new to bring to the table? Feel like you can make the next best widget to hit a WM device? Then, hop over to the tutorial and start coding.

Addon widget kitchen and dev guide:
I uploaded the addon kitchen to post 6 on the first page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta…2&d=1286152965

Along with the kitchen tools you’ll find:
1) A CHT addon dev guide – it’s a draft right now, I’ll expand it based on feedback.
2) Source files for all addon widgets.

The dev guide should help you get started, but basic manila and lua knowledge it needed and not explained in the guide. Hopefully the guide will expanded in the future to include that too.
A few devs have already managed to create their own addons, so I’m hoping this will not be too difficult for others either. You can get more information or post your feedback on widget development either here or in the dedicated dev group:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/group.php?groupid=278. Contact me over PM for an invite to the dev group – please, only people who are serious about development.

By changing your device’s font, you can quickly give it a fresh look without trawling through menus or un- and re-installing themes. XDA member kliptik‘s popular KD-Font application allows you to modify the system fonts on any Windows Mobile phone and also provides a finger-friendly and appealing interface with which to do so.
KD-Font is a lightweight app, which only downloads the font files when you select one to apply. Once a font style is chosen, you are given the decision of whether to apply it to the whole phone or just either the Windows Mobile shell or HTC Sense. Since its initial release this July, the app has matured to version 1.2.2, with the addition of new fonts, a new library updating method, the ability to sort fonts in the library by category and fixes to allow KD-Font to be cooked into custom ROMs.
To give your device’s menus a new look, try KD Font by downloading it from the application thread.

The release of much press-coverage of the imminent Windows Phone 7 operating system has spawned many look-a-like themes and applications, which allow older devices to imitate the look and feel of the new software to please their tech-hungry owners.

One of the more popular of these modifications was WP7UI by XDA member ashiqiqbal. Recently, the project has been terminated and reborn as ‘the Host’ – ashiqiqbal’s new WP7-like home screen replacement.

‘The Host goes one step further than WP7UI ever did, by offering additional customisation tools to its users. For instance, animated tiles are now available as well as finger-swipe navigation and support for landscape mode.

‘The Host’ is a standalone application and, unusally for such a release, is compatible with almost all resolutions found on Windows Mobile devices. If you would like to add a little bit of WP7 to your device, simply download the .cab from the application thread.

ScreenShot2[1]

Many owners of Windows Mobile devices have bemoaned the official Facebook application provided by the Marketplace and hoped for an alternative other than using the basic and finger-unfriendly mobile web version.

Despite being the second most-visited website in the world, Facebook applications for Windows phones have been notoriously slow and buggy, with many iterations not even allowing users to send video clips or complete messages to one another through the service.

This has led XDA members Sopis, joe_coolish and Fredz to develop a rivalling Facebook client. Since building up support for the project, the trio have worked hard at providing another option for those who would like to keep up with their friends will on the move.

Currently up to version 3.0 beta, the app focuses on being faster and user-friendlier than the one by Facebook themselves. You can install the application on your device by downloading the .cab file from the project thread.

Co0kie’s Home Tab Updated

September 28, 2010   By:

cookies_home_tab_windows_mobile_2

At this point, almost everybody knows Cookie Home Tab, the work made by XDA member Co0kieMonster that completely changed the way we know Sense/Manila. In case you are not familiar, this add-on allows customization of almost every part of the UI.
Cookie Home Tab v2.0.0 has important changes since app has been rewritten from zero and optimized to gain speed. Many new features are present such as left/right sliding pages configurable from 1 to 7 pages, redesigned soft key area, bottom menu and tab slider, quick links can be configured in any row by column layout, and much more.
The developer states that CHT mod is more configurable than ever. You can find a new CHT Editor version as well.

About v2.0.0 Public Beta:
CHT version v2.0.0 bring major changes. Most of the mod has been rewritten from the ground up, every line of code has been looked over and optimized for speed. Lots of new features have also been added along with an addon widget framework. Generally the mod is more configurable than ever.
This is a beta release, complete with bugs and unfinished bits, so keep that in mind.
You must uninstall any previous version of CHT and soft reset before installing this one.

A new version of CHTEditor is also available: CHTEditor v2.0.0.0 – also in beta.
There is no backward compatiblity with versions 1.x.x, so you can’t import old CHTE settings files. But future versions will be compatile going forward, so you will be able to import your 2.0.0 settings into any 2.x.x version.

Here are the highlights of what’s new in v2.0.0. A full list of changes is quite large and will be added a little later (a user manual is coming).
For now these are just highlights, but I know you’ll discover the details while exploring

  • left/right sliding pages confgurable from 1 to 7 pages (separately configurable for portrait, landscape and lockscreen)
  • redesidned softkey area, bottom menu and tab slider (tap and hold the slider button, don’t just tap and release)
  • quick links can be configured in any row by column layout
  • new links that are can be freely moved anywhere on the screen (free links – add from popup menu)
  • free links have a slide-to-launch feature on the lockscreen
  • more widgets: email, sms, RSS, weather, clocks (digital, flip and analog)
  • addon widget framework: widgets can be made by anyone and installed as an addon cab
  • widgets can be pinned into place and some can be freely resized

litetrack0.5

You may remember a few months ago, we released an article about a tracking software for Windows Mobile called LiteTrack, developed by XDA member xdaid. In case you are not sure what this those, basically the app runs in the background while using the GPS in your device (assuming it has one) and tracks all your trips. Basically, it maps whatever routes you take to wherever you go. This is particularly useful for people who tend to look for shortcuts from traffic and then simply forget them.

This new version of the app has been loaded with new features and a few critical bug fixes as well. So, if you were using it before, upgrade to 0.5 and find out what else this app has to offer. Feedback is always appreciated.

what’s new in 0.5 version (big update ever)

New features:

  • statistics for your track (distance, duration, top speed, average speed, top altitude, lowest altitude)
  • power saving: gps sleep & wakeup mode to track walk paths
  • user monitor over cpu, memory and battery status
  • two points distance calculator
  • switch between km/meters and miles/feets units
  • file dialogs and sat viewer improved
  • send your gps location via SMS
  • export tracks (LTF files) to GPX and KML
  • Bugs fixed:
  • several bugs fixed, now LiteTrack is much stable
