The Weekly Q&A: Week 22

Every week, we select five questions and answers, found on the forums. Even though some of these questions and answers might not be of help for you, they might still be interesting to read.

Q ‘How can I get access to LIVE services and marketplace on my Windows Phone 7 HD2? ‘

A There is a detailed guide about unlocking Windows Phone 7 on your HD2. However, we do not recommend this method as it requires you to call Microsoft for an activation code – which is pretty illegal. If you want to risk getting involved into trouble with Microsoft, continue to the thread for all information.

  • Q&A originally posted in the Windows Phone 7 HD2 Forum thread.

Q ‘Is there a way to get access to LIVE services and marketplace without having to call Microsoft?’

A No. You need to have a unique activation code. No tool can acquire these codes yet.

Q ‘Do you need root access to flash a kernel? ‘

A No, root is not required, but it does offer many advantages. So if you’re planning to flash a kernel, why not just root your phone too?

  • Q&A originally posted in the Samsung Galaxy S Q&A Forum thread.

Q ‘What does “Boot Into Recovery” mean?’

A Boot Into Recovery basically means that you (re)boot your phone into the recovery mode using a certain combination of hardware button presses. This combination varies per device. The recovery mode lets you perform lower-level actions that cannot be performed when the OS is running.

  • Q&A originally posted in the Samsung Galaxy S Q&A Forum thread.

Q ‘Is there an official version of LIVE Messenger for my Windows Phone 7?

A Microsoft did not create any Live Messenger app for WP7. The official app is developed by Miyowa, confirmed by Microsoft. You can find this application in the marketplace.

  • Q&A originally posted in the HD7 General Forum thread.

If you have a burning question, make sure to search the forum first before posting. If you didn’t find the answer, you can post your question in the appropriate forum.
