Windows Phone 7 Knows Where You Are – Be Scared(?)
Posted May 5, 2011 at 09:00 am by Sam Caplat
If you’re an owner of a lovely WP7 device, you think it’s beautiful and that your OS is superior to any other, you love your device to the ends of the earth and would happily cuddle it while sle… Anyway, this is how you might feel about your device now. But that’s until you hear that Windows Phone 7, in light of events over the past few weeks, is no different to iOS and Android.
XDA user samsamuel posted a thread revealing that WP7 records your location and connection information just as much as any other phone OS. He also asked the question, “Are you scared??”. If I was to answer that, it would probably be a resounding “no”, as it has been for the last two to three weeks. I’m not scared or annoyed in any way that Apple and Google may be tracking our locations and connection information for whatever reason, mostly because I have nothing to hide or be scared of.
However, despite that question being a “no” for me, it interests me as to what your opinion of this is. How do you feel about Apple, Windows, and/or Google tracking your location and connection information for analytic reasons? Disregarding the fact that you did already accept an agreement saying they could when you purchased and registered your phone.
