Windows Phone 7 Series: Has Microsoft failed?

There have been speculations about Windows Mobile 7 for a long time. It was rumored it would replace the old Windows 95 style interface, with a user experience that would beat every interface out there, so we’ve set the bar high and had great expectations.
Now, four years later, Windows Phone 7 Series has finally been unveiled, I think it looks amazing! When the Zune HD was released, I fell in love with the clean design of it, hearing of a Zune like phone, I was silently hoping for a phone that has the same design as the Zune HD. And yes the Zune Phone became true in a way, I was really glad when I first saw the new interface.
Not uncommon, my first impression was a bit too favorable. I’ve seen that Windows Phone 7 Series doesn’t support multitasking anymore, or at least not in the way I would like it to. In addition customizing, tweaking and creating ROMs seem out of the picture for now.
So the hope I had for a ‘Zune Phone’ became the fear for an ‘iPhone’. I discovered that I actually like the ‘old’ Windows Mobile very much, not because I like the interface, but because I love the ability to tweak and customize, which makes it great in my opinion.
But while I was browsing through the xda forums, I started to realize that this community, with all the developers, could really hack the interface and get the best out of it. We love Windows Mobile, so I’m aiming for making Windows Phone 7 Series a bit more ‘Windows Mobile’ and a bit less ‘iPhone’!
I’d like to hear your opinions in the new Windows Phone 7 Series forum or in the comments here.
