Word Lens App… See It to Believe It

From time to time, we feature an article or two that call our attention in our sister site, www.iphone-developers.com. This week, we will talk about this new app, which, truth be told, is really something that has to be seen in order to properly describe it (not really as it is rather easy to describe, but it is just plain awesome). The original article at iPD (link on the bottom of this article), will have a video embedded for you to appreciate what this app can do.
Basically what this app does is that it uses the camera as some sort of OCR engine and can translate any text in front of it into a different language. Think of Google Goggles but infinitely more accurate, and for text. Just an example, if you put a banner in front of the device while this app is running, what you will see in the device will be that banner, but with the writing translated into whatever language you are looking for. Needless to say that the translations are literal from what can be seen on the video in the article, so it looks like grammar may not be this app’s forte just yet. However, the concept of the whole app is simply mind-blowing to say the least. Your move, Android devs…
5 years ago, if I told you that you could use your phone’s camera to instantly translate from Spanish to English or from English to Spanish, you’d probably think I was crazy. In fact, I probably would’ve locked myself up on your behalf. But here we are, watching the impossible become insanely cool, as Quest Visual launches their new app for iPhone, aptly named World Lens.
You can find more information in the original article at iPD.
