Windows Phone 7.8 for the HTC Trophy, Arrive, and 7 Pro

Windows Phone 7.8 hit XDA running. In a matter of weeks, the newest version of WP is already running on the HTC Radar, HTC Titan, and the (legendary) HTC HD2. It has helped revitalize a Windows Phone development environment that had all but given up with the approach of Windows 8. Now, three more WP devices have received a port to 7.8. They are the HTC 7 Pro, HTC Arrive, and the HTC Spark (US version of Trophy).

XDA Senior Member sianto1997, who also brought the HTC Radar port, is responsible for all three ports. The HTC Arrive and 7 Pro releases are pretty much identical. The features for those two include:

-Nokia Counters, Nokia Drive, Nokia Music Camera extras (NOKIA MARKETPLACE)
-USB Video out
-DFT Bluetooth transfer
-Windows Phone 8 startscreen

Of course, with ports do come issues. Here’s the issues list for the Arrive and 7 Pro:

Picturetile: if you make it small you can’t make it full big again
xbox and music and video don’t change accent (make tap the little icon a few times (everytime))
Marketplace icon sometimes has windows logo, sometimes not
if you pin a site and make it really small its grey, and you can only pin one thing to start

Aside from some early hiccups, users are reporting that these ROMs work and work pretty well. Even if they’re a little rough, they can still be used as daily drivers as nothing overly major is wrong with them.

For the HTC Spark, the ROM came out a little better. The features include:

-Windows Phone 7.8
-Windows Phone 8 startscreen
-Windows Mobile Device Center
-USB Video Out
-Bazaar 1.7
-Regedit
-Digital Power
-Search Key Remapper
-DFT Bluetooth File Transfer
-XAP Deployer
-Opitional languages (LANGUAGEPACK)
No font issue

There isn’t a list of bugs for this ROM, so if there is any they weren’t important enough to mention. Once again, this could be used a daily driver as there haven’t been any real big issues reported.

If you’d like more information, you can find it in the HTC 7 Pro/HTC Arrive thread or the HTC Spark thread.

CloudPlayer: DIY HiFi Music Streaming Solution

In our Helpful Guide to Music Streaming Services, we mentioned several different services that offer ways to stream catalogs of music directly to your device. While each service has their benefits and drawbacks, the common theme among them is to give you access to a vast library of music without the need to store your own, and charge you a monthly fee for the privilege. But what if you already had access to your own catalog of music? Sure, there...
