Developing for Windows Phone 7? WP7 Screen Capture Allows You To Show Off Your Work

One of the most useful tools for any developer, rom chef, or themer is the ability to show off what they can do. Taking pictures with a camera can usually help, but it is not ideal because under most circumstances, the pictures will come out either blurry, not legible, or the screen will reflect the flash (if used). Because of these (and other reasons), there have been apps developed since the time of Windows Mobile, that will allow a user to take a screenshot of whatever is on the dev’s screen at the time (much like the “Print Screen” functionality on the PC). Windows Phone 7 does not have this ability, or at least it did not until recently, thanks to XDA member fiinix. Screen Capture is a free app that will allow devs to do all of what is described before. The app is always running in the background as an infinite loop, so you will need to have the ability to multi-task on your WP7 device, which can be enabled with a hack courtesy of XDA member Jaxbot. However, the app is set to auto sleep after 500 ms due to it being too heavy on the device’s battery.

Please take this app for a spin and leave some feedback if you run into any kind of bugs.

At application start Jaxbot‘s dehydrate hack, its enabled automatic by setting some registry values (that enables sort of multitasking). So that you can just run this app, go to home, enter the wanted app of you choice that you want to capture.

Brief info about how this app has functionality to take captures.: Uses The DllImport Project to talk to the system that enables C# code to call C++ for me.

You can find more information in the application thread.
