Developers bring Android 10 custom ROMs to the Xiaomi Mi A3, Moto G5S Plus, LeEco Le 2, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Huawei Mediapad M3 Lite
The custom ROM development scene is in full swing over at XDA forums. Ever since Google dropped the Android 10 source code, developers have been relentlessly working toward making the latest flavor of Android accessible to more and more devices. The Asus ZenFone Max M1 was the first phone to receive an AOSP-based Android 10 ROM and since then the list of devices with unofficial Android 10 port has steadily been growing. Earlier this month we saw developers bringing Android 10 custom ROMs to devices such as the Moto G (2015), Redmi 2, Xperia Z3 Compact, HTC 10 and HTC One M8, followed by the Realme 3 Pro, Galaxy S7 and Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite a week later. Now, six more guests have joined the party as the Android 10 custom ROMs are now available for the Xiaomi Mi A3, Moto G5S Plus, LeEco Le 2, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Huawei Mediapad M3 Lite.
Xiaomi Mi A3
Xiaomi Mi A3 users will be delighted to know that they have a total of three Android 10 ROMs to choose from. There’s Pixel Experience 10, AOSP-based AtomOS and an unofficial port of Paranoid Android Quartz. Pixel Experience and AtomOS appears to be more stable as there are no known issues listed for any of them; the Paranoid Android is in the alpha phase and thus may not be suitable as a daily driver. If you do decide to flash any of these, make sure to read through the installation instructions posted on the respective thread.
Moto G5S Plus
The Moto G5S Plus, which was launched in 2017 with Android Nougat, has received an official beta of Arrow OS based on Android 10 courtesy of XDA Senior Member Sai404142. You won’t be able to flash Magisk and there are some freezing issues with WebView and the default browser but other than that, everything is working fine. Check out the main thread by following the link below for more details.
LeEco Le 2
LeEco Le 2 from 2016 has received an unofficial port of Android 10 via Pixel Experience. Core functionalities such as WiFi, mobile data, camera, Bluetooth and fingerprint are working fine but there are some issues with hardware encryption and random lock screen crashes. Pixel Experience ROMs come pre-installed with Google apps so you don’t have to download any GApps package.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, also known as Lenovo Lemon 3 in some markets, gets a pure vanilla AOSP ROM compiled directly from the Android 10 source code. The known issues include some VoLTE related issues, poor battery life, and broken SMS functionality. Give it a try by following the linked thread below.
Samsung Galaxy A5 (2015)
The Samsung Galaxy A5 was launched all the way back in 2015 with Android 4.4 KitKat and if you’re still holding onto one of these, you’ll be glad to know you too can try out goodies of Android 10. The AOSP based Android 10 ROM is brought you by XDA Member Soft-Bullet with the only known issue being the non-functioning capacitive navigation buttons.
Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite
Why should only smartphones have all the fun? Huawei’s MediaPad M3 Lite Android tablet is also joining the Android 10 league with an unofficial port of LineageOS 17.0. The camera is broken in this initial build but everything else seems to be stable and working. Assuming you already have an unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed, head over to the linked thread below to download the ROM zip and follow along with the installation instructions.
