With all of the talk about changes happening in Android Q, some people forget that OEMs are still working on updating their smartphones to Android Pie. A little over a year ago, HMD Global announced that all Nokia smartphones would receive this update. This was a bold move as some companies are notorious for not rolling out big version updates to their low-end and mid-range smartphones. The company worked hard over the last twelve months updating many Nokia devices and they continue to uphold that promise. Early this morning we learned that owners of the 2017 Nokia 3 should look forward to a new update notification as well.

Earlier this year, HMD Global went one step further and gave us some more details about their Android Pie update schedule. Simply knowing that all of their devices would receive the update wasn't enough for some people. So the company felt it would be better to release a roadmap of its update schedule for the year. Regarding the Android Pie update on the Nokia 6Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 2.1, it’s scheduled for sometime in Q1 of this year (which has passed). The Nokia 3 and Nokia 1 will receive the Android Pie update in Q2.

We can all agree that the Nokia 3 wasn't even in contention to be the fastest smartphone released in 2017. The MediaTek MT6737 chipset it uses can be compared to Qualcomm's early Snapdragon 4xx series for that year. Most smartphone OEMs will only promise 2 years of major version updates and 3 years of security updates for their flagship smartphones. HMD Global, however, is keeping their 2017 Nokia 3 alive with an update that is currently in the middle of rolling out to its user base.

Some doubted the company would be able to keep up with their update schedule throughout the years but we can see they are dedicated to their products. It seems they were able to meet their schedule for this smartphone and only have the Nokia 1 left to update before the end of the month.
