A short while ago, we talked about Android One getting root and custom recovery thanks to XDA Recognized Developer varun.chitre15. It was fairly easy to predict that the custom ROM madness would start afterwards—and surprise, surprise, we were all right. The first custom ROM for Android One has just been released, and once again varun.chitre15 is the developer who delivers goodness to the community.

CyanogenMod 11 is at an early stage of development. This doesn’t mean that the ROM itself is unstable. A great majority of functions work properly. Only dual SIM and Internet connectivity are on the to-do list. The ROM is universal, and as such it works on every Android One device released to date. There is absolute no need to flash a different radio or some compatibility patches. Such an approach makes things much easier to maintain for developers and creates less confusion among users.

As reported, Cyanogen, Inc. has teamed up with Micromax and will release a first CM-powered smartphone on the Indian market. Custom ROM development in this country should reach a rather frenetic pace!

If you own a Spice Dream Uno, Karbonn Sparkle V or Micromax Canvas A1, head over to the CyanogenMod 11 for Android One development thread to get some custom ROM magic.
