OPPO has been among the pioneers of smartphone design with moving cameras intended to increase the size of the display as well as evade the notch trend. Last year, OPPO launched the Find X with a sliding module housing the front camera. This year, OPPO’s sliding mechanism got sleeker with the OPPO Reno series. The highlight of the OPPO Reno series is the shark-fin camera pop-up which is pivoted at one end and swings out from the other. The series features two devices – the OPPO Reno 10X Zoom edition with a 5X optical zoom module and Snapdragon 855 as well as the OPPO Reno Standard edition with a Snapdragon 710 SoC but without optical zooming capabilities.

At the launch event in India, OPPO promised that the two smartphones will be among its earliest devices to get Android Q. Now, the OPPO Reno Standard edition is becoming eligible for the Android Q developer preview.

Unlike stable versions of software for OPPO devices, the Android Q beta for the OPPO Reno Standard edition sports a stock Android appearance instead of OPPO’s custom Android skin, ColorOS. Further, the company recommends this build only to developers who want to test apps aimed at Android Q. If you’re a user and just want to try out Android Q on your smartphone, we shall warn you that the experience may be buggy and unstable, and thus, not usable.

Those willing to try the update out can start by taking a backup of their OPPO Reno Standard edition devices. Then download the Android Q firmware file from the link below and copy it to the smartphone. Reboot the smartphone in recovery mode by keeping the power and volume down buttons pressed while restarting. Then select your language and then tap “Install from storage device” to continue the process.
