ASUS ZenFone 6, Razer Phone, and Samsung Galaxy A3/A5/S5 Neo are now supported by LineageOS 16

LineageOS has solidified itself as the most popular custom ROM in the Android community after it rose from the ashes of CyanogenMod. The custom ROM is now on version 16 based on Android 9 Pie, though with Android 10 Q just around the corner, we’re probably going to see a lot of work on the next version in the coming weeks and months. Recently, the LineageOS 16 build roster expanded to include the ASUS ZenFone 6, Razer Phone, 2016 Samsung Galaxy A3, 2016 Samsung Galaxy A5, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo.

Of 5 new additions to the build roster, the ZenFone 6 is the most interesting device. ASUS sent multiple units to prominent custom ROM and kernel developers, resulting in an unofficial LineageOS 16 build, a custom kernel, and a capable Google Camera port being made. More recently, OmniROM was just released for the device, and I’ve heard that a custom kernel that overclocks the screen refresh rate to 75Hz is in the works. Now that an official build of LineageOS 16 is available for the ZenFone, other custom ROM developers can use it as a base for their own work. Hopefully, the custom development scene starts to pick up for the device from here out. This build is maintained by developers luca020400 and OrdenKrieger.

As the first Android smartphone in the West with a 120Hz display, the first-generation Razer Phone got a lot of attention from smartphone enthusiasts. Unfortunately, Razer’s future in the smartphone space is uncertain, and users were left wondering if their existing devices will continue to receive software support. The first Razer Phone is finally starting to receive its Android 9 Pie update, but if you want continued software support, you may want to look into flashing a custom ROM. Now that the phone is officially supported by LineageOS, you’ll be able to get nightly updates if you so choose. This build is maintained by developers mikeioannina and javelinanddart.

Lastly, the 2016 Galaxy A3, 2016 Galaxy A5, and the Galaxy S5 Neo from Samsung are now supported by LineageOS 16. None of these devices have official access to Android 9 Pie, so a custom ROM like LineageOS is the only way you’ll be able to enjoy the latest platform release. These builds are maintained by developers danwood76 and Stricted.

At the time of writing, the builds for the Razer Phone and Galaxy S5 Neo haven’t gone live. Keep an eye out on the download pages for those two devices tomorrow as the 16 release is built each day for all supported devices. Lastly, be sure to follow all installation instructions to a T, because some devices, like the newly-added ASUS ZenFone 6 and Razer Phone, use the new Lineage Recovery.
