The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 was launched in India in April. It marks the return of Asus to the value smartphone segment after quite some time. The phone competes with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Oppo Realme 1 in terms of specifications. At launch, Asus had launched the phone in two variants: 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage, and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. The 3GB RAM variant costs ₹10,999 ($160), while the 4GB RAM variant has a price tag of ₹12,999 ($189). Asus had also announced a 6GB RAM variant with 64GB of storage that would be made available at a later point in time.

At the Asus ZenFone 5Z India launch, Asus stated that the 6GB RAM variant of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 would go on sale this month. The phone is now available exclusively via Flipkart. The 6GB RAM variant has 64GB of storage. All variants of the phone have a dedicated microSD slot for expandable storage that lets users use two dual SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time.

Notably, the 6GB RAM variant has a different front and rear camera configuration. The 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM variants have a 13MP + 5MP dual dual rear camera setup, and an 8MP front-facing camera. The 6GB RAM variant, on the other hand, has 16MP + 5MP dual rear cameras and a 16MP front-facing camera. The rest of the specifications are the same, and they are noted as follows:

At its price, it directly competes with the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and the 6GB RAM/128GB storage variant of the Oppo Realme 1. The 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM variants are still not widely available as flash sales are held on a weekly basis. For now, it is unknown whether stocks for the 6GB RAM variant will last.

Since its launch, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 has received updates bringing Face Unlock support and VoLTE for major Indian carriers. The company has also released kernel sources and an official bootloader unlock tool for the phone.

Update July 26 3PM IST: The 6GB RAM variant of the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 is now out of stock on Flipkart, which means that it will be sold via flash sales too. Users can expect to try their luck again in a week’s time. Unfortunately, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 isn’t different from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in this key area.
