The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 was one of the surprise releases from ASUS last year, one that managed to put pressure on Chinese OEMs in the budget and early mid-range. The phone not only featured decent specifications, it also was one of the few available options with a stock Android build. Asus backed the package up with a competitive price tag, and followed it up with kernel sources and the ability to unlock the bootloader. Now, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 has received its first official nightly of LineageOS 16 based on Android Pie.

Asus’s effort on the ZenFone Max Pro M1 has resulted in a very underrated device that has aged gracefully, with a decent Google Camera port, official LineageOS 15.1 builds as well as an official Android Pie release from Asus. The availability of the latest LineageOS nightlies is another positive point for the users of this device, as it gives them an alternate source of updates and the ability to enjoy the customizations that Lineage brings over the stock Android builds on the device.

We’re excited to see how this humble device progresses over the years, as it has all the right ingredients to last in the hands of the consumers for a long time. The Max Pro M1 is still on sale on some online channels after price cuts, so you can pick up the device for as cheap as ₹7,999 (~$116) for the base 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant. Newer releases from competitors has eroded the present value-for-money factor that the phone presents right now, but that is a natural and expected consequence of the phone’s age. Hopefully we continue to see the same level of love and attention from Asus as well as the community for this device.
