The stereo speakers on the Sony Xperia Z2 are probably a relatively large source of envy among owners of former Xperia flagship devices such as the Xperia Z1. And with the same design language, almost identical dimensions, and a not very significant bump in processing power, the having stereo playback is the one feature that the Z1 just had to miss out on. Luckily however, Z1 owners may be able to give this feature a go thanks to XDA Senior Member dontbelive.

To be brutally honest, the native options for screen orientation in Android devices aren't particularly extensive. Actually, it's not extensive at all, consisting of merely a toggle to turn it on or off. For many folks, this is totally sufficient. What other customization options could you possibly have for a setting that simply turns the screen sideways? But being part of the Android OS, a lot of us also expect some of the customization and flexibility that has come to define the OS as a whole. With this said, XDA Recognized Developer and Themer Pranav Pandey has developed an app which does a great job filling in the gaps.

It seems like OEMs are stepping up their game, with regards to the quality of their devices’ sound and speakers. HTC kicked it off with the fabulous Boom Sound speakers on the original HTC One and its successor the One M8, as well as the mid-range Desire 600 and Desire 816, and Sony hopped on board later with their first front facing speakers debuting on the Xperia Z2. With the bar set up high, other OEMs, such as LG and their G3, may be feeling the heat.

If this sounds like the predicament you’re in, you may want to check out Emoji Switcher.

Introduced back in 2012, the Sony Xperia Small Apps feature was perhaps the first major step in what has become an integral part of multitasking on Android devices. And since then, there have been plenty of useful small apps, as well as various mods and ports developed by XDA community members. Now two years on, the momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing anytime soon, especially when taking into account the four new small apps recently developed by XDA Recognized Developer and Themer Pranav Pandey.

Bluetooth is one of the most conventional ways we transfer files from one device to another, and this is even more so with the integration of NFC technology in almost every device that’s been released in the past couple of years. And there are good reasons for this too–Bluetooth is convenient, relatively fast, energy efficient, and most important of all, can be found within any tech device of the past 10 years. With all its upsides however, it’s unfortunate that the one thing holding Bluetooth back is the restrictions on the file types that can be received, at least on the Android OS--a gripe which can be easily solved now with an Xposed module.

One major and welcomed addition to the Sony Xperia user interface that came along with the Android 4.3 update was Xperia Themes. This feature allows you to effortlessly change a number of UI elements with custom themes created by the community, one of which includes the system-wide system accent. Normally, the only way to change the color of the system accent is to set a new theme, which may also inadvertently change other aspects of the UI. But if you’d rather change this setting specifically without altering anything else that you may have in place, there’s now an Xposed module which will allow you to do this.

The Jolla phone has been out for a while now, and running Sailfish OS, it presents itself as a fresh and interesting alternative what we've all gotten used to over the years---albeit it has heritage in the more primitive MeeGo previously. Normally, those who are looking to give Sailfish a go would have to either get some hands on experience with the Jolla phone themselves or wait around for a port to their current device. But because both of these options may not be possible, it's good to see that folks can now be able to experience a large part of the OS with the recently ported Sailfish launcher.

It seems like the latest feature to find its way into almost all modern flagship smartphones is 4K video recording. This began with the Acer Liquid S2, and has now made its way to recent flagships from Samsung, LG, and Sony---this being the Galaxy S5, G3, and Xperia Z2, respectively. As with any other new feature found on the latest devices, owners of previous flagships may find themselves longing for the added features. Luckily, Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact can now enjoy some of this on their own devices.

With wearable technology taking center stage this year, one can only expect more active development to be seen in this area. This includes tighter integration of apps between wearables and our phones and tablets such as the Tasker extension for the Sony Smartwatch 2, a handy little app that allows you to control and operate Tasker straight from the watch on your wrist. Being a very useful and practical extension, XDA Senior Member Orbonis was inspired to develop something similar for the Samsung Galaxy Gear called TasGear.

If you’ve been thinking of developing your first custom ROM for your Sony Xperia device, chances are that you probably need a kernel to go along with it, especially if the ROM is for devices with locked bootloaders. Because of this, it’s sometimes best to know how to extract the kernel from an FTF file in order to integrate it into your ROM.

Not too long ago, we covered Android 4.4.2 KitKat making its way to the LG G2---or at least to the T-Mobile variant. Before it was available as an OTA, it came as a massive 1.5 GB KDZ file, the file type LG uses for their ROMs, much like Sony Xperia's FTF and Motorola's SBF files.

If you’ve been looking for a more interesting battery charging animation to replace the rather dull and conventional battery icon you have now, there are a wealth of options available ranging from battery mod compilations to 3rd party apps, and even a Windows tool. But if these options just don't seem to cut it for you and you’d rather create your own battery animation from scratch, you may want to check out XDA Recognized Contributor erikalin’s tutorial.

The Asus Transformer TF300T is probably one of the earliest and most refined convertible tablets that the market has seen. It came with a well built and sturdy keyboard dock that featured a trackpad mouse, a full sized USB port, and even its own battery. Its insides weren’t lacking for its time either, packing a quad core processor clocking in at 1.2 GHz. With a spec sheet like this, it was no doubt a popular device with some great development history.

Chances are that if you haven’t accidentally ripped or broken the headset that came with your phone, it’s probably hopelessly lost, never to be found. And on an Xperia device, that's too bad because without it, you won’t be able to catch up on your favorite radio personality or listen to Top 40 without streaming it via mobile broadband. But hey, there’s now a way for Sony Xperia owners to listen to the radio without the required headset, thanks to a tutorial written by XDA Recognized Contributor DaRk-L0rD.
