You can now buy Google Fi SIM cards at Best Buy
Google Fi, formerly known as Project Fi, has received a lot of attention as of late. Not only did it receive a brand new name to fit along with other services provided by the Mountain View tech giant (such as Google Pay and Wear OS), but it continues to add support for new devices that support its unique network switching capabilities. This week it was announced that potential customers could buy Google Fi SIM cards at retail stores in the United States. This is thanks to a partnership between Google and Best Buy where these SIM cards will be available in over 500 stores across the U.S.
Google Fi is a unique MVNO that charges a certain amount for unlimited phone calls and text messages ($20 per month). Then you are charged a certain amount for the mobile data that you use for that month ($10 per GB). The total ends up coming to around $35 per month due to taxes and service fees, but the catch is that you get refunded for the mobile data that you do not use. This means that if you end up using WiFi for all of your data needs in a particular billing period then you’ll only be paying around $24 per month as Google ends up refunding you $10 for the 1GB of mobile data you didn’t use. However, if you use a lot of data, the bill can go up quite a bit.
You read that right—hi, @BestBuy! Fi SIM cards are now available in 500+ stores nationwide and online.

That, with its network hopping ability across T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular’s networks make it a desirable wireless choice for those who don’t use that much mobile data each month. Since the service was launched though, the phones that are capable of switching between these networks has been limited and the SIM cards have only been available online. Pre-paid SIM cards tend to be popular in the United States, but a lot of people like to buy their products in stores.
So while the company has worked with smartphone OEMs to expand the number of compatible devices they have also been working with Best Buy to get their SIM card in physical stores. SIM cards in Best Buy stores will be priced at $9.99 and both new and current subscribers who buy and activate one will get that money back in the form of a $10 credit added to their account.
