When the Pixel 3 was unveiled, Google demonstrated a new feature in the Google Phone app called Call Screen. Call Screen lets Google Assistant answer a phone call for you, talk to the other person on the line, and send from a list of predetermined responses, all while transcribing the phone call. The main gripe with this feature was the fact that once the call ends, the call transcript gets deleted. Fortunately, Google will be adding the ability to save transcripts of the Call Screen conversation by the end of this year. Paul Dunlop, one of the Product Managers for Call Screen, took to the Google support forums to make this announcement. There are only about 44 days left in the year, so we expect the feature to roll out soon.

Call Screen is the first feature of its kind in a smartphone. When you get a phone call, you can just select the “screen call” button and the Google Assistant will take it from there. It’s designed to combat spam calls, but you may occasionally use it on a call that you want to go back to. In a future update to the service, the transcripts will show up in the call log.

Call Screen launched with the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL, but the previous generation Google Pixel phones will be getting it soon. The Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL have already started to get it in the latest update, and the first generation Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL shouldn’t be too far off.
