MacBook Air (M2, 15-inch) review: A big-screen Apple laptop for the masses
The 15-inch MacBook Air is, well, a bigger MacBook Air. While it's not as light or as portable of a machine, it's still a great laptop.
For years, there was a calling for Apple to make a laptop with a larger screen in the Air product line. Sure, there was the MacBook Pro for users who wanted a bigger display, but not everyone who preferred a 15- or 16-inch screen wanted the MacBook Pro. For a while, the 13-inch MacBook Air actually was the bigger one, with the 11-inch model serving as the small-screened variant. That changed in June of this year when Apple debuted the 15-inch version of the M2 MacBook Air. In essence, it's everything we loved about the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air — but bigger. If you're looking for a big screen in an Apple laptop but don't want to spend MacBook Pro money, the 15-inch MacBook Air is for you.
Lenovo LOQ 15 review: Cost cutting done well
A budget gaming laptop with fewer compromises than I had thought.
Lenovo is pushing into the entry-level gaming market with some aggressively priced PCs as a part of its LOQ brand. Most manufacturers use their fresh lineups as an opportunity to reinvent the wheel and deliver something new and unique. Lenovo hasn't gone that far, though. It's instead selling laptops and desktop towers that look and feel very similar to the existing ones in its Legion lineup. As a result, you get solid gaming laptops that not only have a premium design but also some solid specs for the money.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 review: The most powerful Surface ever
The Surface Laptop Studio 2 is all about more power
The main thing that you need to know about the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is that it's way more powerful than its predecessor, but also that in order to get there, Microsoft made the chassis thicker and heavier. With that out of the way, it's still one of the best laptops on the market, at least in terms of the audience that it serves. It's made for video editors and gamers, and it serves them well. If you're looking for more of a productivity work flow, check out the standard Surface Laptop.
Lenovo ThinkPad P1 (2023) review: Balancing mobility and raw power
The new ThinkPad P1 mobile workstation gets a performance bump and some new user-focused features
The ThinkPad P1, now in its sixth generation, is Lenovo's answer to professionals who want a proper workstation laptop that sides with mobility rather than all-out performance. It's surprisingly thin and light for a laptop from this class, and it shares a lot of design DNA with the X1 Extreme (Gen 5) that we reviewed. However, the P1 is available with Ada-class Nvidia discrete GPUs made for specialized work, and it comes with a number of ISV certifications to prove that the top modeling and design software runs optimally on the system. The high asking price is balanced by a suite of high-end features that make for a comfortable user experience, but is it ultimately the best laptop for you?
HP Spectre x360 13.5 (2023) review: HP wins again
The HP Spectre x360 continues to be one of our favorite laptops
The HP Spectre x360 is one of the laptops I look forward to reviewing every year. It's consistently one of the best laptops on the market, being HP's premium brand for over a decade now. The 2023 model of the product is a spec bump, which isn't surprising at all given that the 2022 version was a complete redesign. But if you're coming from something that's three or more years old, you'll see some pretty significant changes.
Hands-on with Surface Laptop Studio 2: Big refinements that matter
The new Surface Laptop Studio 2 is Microsoft's most powerful laptop yet, and it is so much better than the original.
Microsoft held its annual Surface event in New York City today, and while there was a heavy focus was on Artifical Intelligence and Windows 11 features like Copilot, the company still had hardware to show that stunned me. No, it's not Surface Laptop Go 3. It's the Surface Laptop Studio 2 that grabbed my attention.
HP Dragonfly G4 review: What else could you want?
HP's Dragonfly G4 isn't just a great business laptop. It's great for everybody
HP's Dragonfly series consistently shows up on our best laptops guide, and there's a reason for that. It's tough to find anything wrong with them, and that extends to the latest addition, the Dragonfly G4. It's super-light, has a 3:2 OLED display option, and the keyboard is best in its class. The webcam is pretty great, too, which is nice to have if you work from home, and HP even added some neat new features, like the ability to automatically switch between cameras while you're using them.
HP Omen Transcend 16 (2023) review: A Mini-LED display and strong CPU power
The Omen Transcend is the priciest of all HP's gaming laptops, but it has a number of premium features to make up for the cost.
HP has a three-pronged approach to mobile PC gaming, delivering laptops with varying prices and features through the Victus, Omen, and Omen Transcend brands. HP refreshed all three of its gaming brands for 2023, and we've now had a chance to test and review all of them. The Omen Transcend 16 (2023) — the latest to receive our attention — is the pinnacle of what HP offers in terms of high-end gaming laptops. To name a few standout selling points, it has a taller display with a 16:10 aspect ratio (not to mention a gorgeous mini-LED option), the chassis is made entirely of magnesium aluminum, and it's thinner and lighter than its siblings.
Dell Inspiron 16 Plus (2023) review: A very capable laptop for almost anything
The Inspiron 16 Plus (2023) is a great everyday laptop, sitting between the XPS 15 and Dell's G-series gaming laptops when it comes to performance
It wasn't too long ago that I reviewed the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1, an excellent laptop for students thanks to the AMD CPU and the versatile convertible form factor. But Dell has since sent me the "better" version of that: the Inspiron 16 Plus (2023). This is a much more premium and powerful Inspiron device that you'd normally get with some of these great Dell laptops.
HP Victus 16 (2023) review: A proficient gaming laptop easily overshadowed
Can HP's "budget" Victus brand pull gamers away from the more premium Omen lineup?
HP has three gaming brands that offer tiered performance and features for users with varying budgets and needs. Omen Transcend is the peak of HP's offering, while Omen is the flagship series that no doubt appeals to most people. Victus is the more affordable brand that's great for gamers just getting into the PC world. Victus laptops are slightly more affordable than Omen ones, have many great features, and you can configure them with plenty of options, including Intel and AMD hardware.
Lenovo Slim Pro 9i (2023) review: A powerful laptop for on-the-go creators
Lenovo's Slim Pro 9i comes with powerful processors and GPUs, plus it has a stunning mini-LED display that's great for creators.
Lenovo makes quite a few laptops for creators, and after I got to review the Slim Pro 7 (and the Slim 7 Pro X before that), I now get to test the top-tier Slim Pro 9i this time around. This takes things a step further in just about every way, making it one of Lenovo's best creator laptops and one of the company's best laptops in general. It comes in two versions, one with a 14-inch screen and one with a 16-inch panel. Both are great, though the larger model is naturally more powerful.
Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (AMD, 2023) review: Big, premium, and great for students
The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2023) is a great Windows convertible for under $1,000, packing in a large screen, comfy keyboard, and decent AMD CPUs.
Students looking for a new laptop — or parents looking for a new laptop for a student — are sometimes on a tight budget. This is why, when shopping for a new device, you'll see many original equipment managers (OEMs) offering more price-friendly PCs. For example, Lenovo has IdeaPads, HP has the Envy line, and Dell has the Inspiron.
Dell XPS 17 (2023) review: The best 17-inch laptop on the planet
Once again, Dell built a winner with the XPS 17.
The Dell XPS 17 (2023) is the best 17-inch laptop on the market. It's really that simple. Part of the reason for that is because 17-inch laptops are somewhat rare, and a lot of them cater to more specific markets, such as gaming.
Asus ROG Strix Scar G733P review: Showcasing the power of AMD Ryzen 9 and Nvidia's RTX 4090
Configure the latest Asus Scar 17 with an AMD Ryzen 9 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 for an unmatched gaming experience.
The best gaming laptops available today have the very latest and greatest AMD and Intel processors, as well as capable graphics processing from Nvidia. We're adding the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 (G733P) to this list after in-depth testing to see just how powerful this combination of internal components truly is. Inside this sleek gaming machine is an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor with a whopping 16 physical cores and 32 threads, capable of boosting all the way up to 5.4 GHz, at least on paper.
Surface Pro 9 with 5G review: Windows on Arm keeps getting better
Microsoft's Surface Pro 9 with 5G comes with a Qualcomm processor, giving it Windows Studio capabilities and great battery life.
In 2019, Microsoft introduced the Surface Pro X, the first ever Surface Pro not to include an Intel processor. Living side-by-side with the Surface Pro 7, Surface Pro 7+, and finally the Surface Pro 8, the Redmond firm decided this year that Windows on Arm is mature enough to merge the two brands. The Surface Pro 9 with 5G is the first product from the mainstream Surface Pro lineup to include an Arm processor.
Lenovo Yoga Book 9i review: It's shockingly good
It's like having a dual-monitor setup, but portable
Whether it’s the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold with its foldable screen, or a Surface Pro tablet that was released in the early 2010s, Windows never seems to work well on a new form factor. In most cases, I’ll walk away from the review saying the product is good for a certain niche, but I’m looking forward to getting back to a real laptop. The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i is a different story though, because this thing is shockingly good.
LG Gram SuperSlim review: One of the thinnest, lightest, premium laptops ever
LG builds on its lightweight legacy with its thinnest laptop ever, and it comes with a more vibrant display, too.
Ever since I laid my hands on my first LG Gram laptop, I've been a fan. These incredibly lightweight laptops wow me every time I pick them up, not only because of their size but also their solid performance and great displays. The brand-new LG Gram SuperSlim builds on this legacy, and it brings two major improvements.
Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) review: Large and lovely mainstream 2-in-1 at a good price
The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 is one of the biggest Windows convertibles you'll find, and while it's less flashy compared to the Yoga 9i, it's still great.
The very best Lenovo convertible laptop you can buy is the Yoga 9i (2023), as you can probably tell by how many appearances it makes on our best laptop lists. As Lenovo's flagship, this great convertible has fancy polished edges, great keyboard shortcuts, and a gorgeous OLED display. The problem is, it costs $1,700. So, if your budget is tight, and you want something that's bigger, less flashy, and more mainstream, you'll want to buy the Yoga 7i 16 (2023) instead.
Lenovo Slim Pro 7 review: A sleek creator laptop that values performance over the display
Lenovo's latest creator laptop is fast and sleek, though the display isn't all that special.
The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 is the company's latest shot at a laptop for content creators, so it looks and feels very similar to last year's Slim 7 Pro X. It does come with upgraded hardware, including an AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor, though it also cuts back in some ways, specifically the display.
Lenovo Legion Pro 5 (2023) review: No compromises in this AMD Ryzen 7000 gaming laptop
I loved the Intel version, and I now have the AMD-based system in for testing.
Some of the best gaming laptops available today are coming out of Lenovo's Legion stable, offering access to a wide range of performance hardware, displays, and — perhaps most importantly — price points. While the Legion Pro 7i (Gen 8) might be our current favorite, its high-end design, features, and performance put it into a price range that's beyond reasonable for a lot of people.
