The Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro will be officially announced on October 16th, as Huawei confirmed during their HiSilicon Kirin 980 announcement last month. Back in July, we received our first firmware dump of both devices which revealed some basic specifications. We were then provided a first look at the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 which we used to create the first renders of the device. This week, we received an updated EMUI 9 software build for the Huawei Mate 20 and used that to leak some potential camera features of the device. While we continue digging through the firmware, we decided to share some of the goodies that we've been holding onto. Here are the Huawei Mate 20's wallpapers, live wallpapers, and themes.

October 16th is several weeks away, but who needs to wait when we have the firmware thanks to FunkyHuawei.club? FunkyHuawei would like us to tell you that they are planning to fully support the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 series and are currently offering a sale for XDA readers. We don't make any profit from FunkyHuawei, but their service has provided us with many leaks in the past such as giving us a first look at Huawei's new gestures in EMUI 9.

Anyway, we ripped the Huawei Mate 20 wallpapers from the latest EMUI 9 firmware so you can download them on any Android device! There are 14 wallpapers in total, 10 of which are shown below as a preview. To view the wallpapers, simply click or tap on them to expand the gallery. I highly recommend you download the uncompressed Mate 20 wallpapers from the link below, though. The Huawei Mate 20 wallpapers are 2160x2244 resolution.

When we were digging through the Huawei Mate 20 EMUI 9 build, there was an app that piqued our interest. It was called "Mate20LiveWallPapers." Yeah, you can guess what that does. Because of an issue with the APK's signature, it was necessary to modify the Huawei Mate 20 live wallpaper app so it could be installed on other devices. We reached out to XDA Recognized Contributor linuxct who ported the Mate 20 Live Wallpapers app for us. We can confirm that it works on devices like the OnePlus 6 and Google Pixel 2 XL running Android Pie, but it should work on any device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later. There are two new Live Wallpapers that are included in this port from the Huawei Mate 20's software: Legend and MilkyWay (here's a video preview of Legend and one for MilkyWay). You can download them from the link below.

Lastly, we have the theme packs from the Huawei Mate 20. These themes can only be installed on EMUI devices running EMUI 8 or EMUI 9 (Android Oreo or Android Pie.) I tested these themes on both my Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro running EMUI 8 based on Android 8.0 Oreo and EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie respectively. Here's a preview of all the Huawei Mate 20 themes you'll get. There are 12 in total, and each includes a wallpaper (same as above) and icon pack.

How to Install the Huawei Mate 20 Themes on EMUI 8/EMUI 9

Side-loading a theme on EMUI is pretty easy.

  1. Download the themes from above. Unzip the .hwt files into the /Themes folder in the root of your device's internal storage. If there isn't a /Themes folder, then make one.
  2. Open the Themes app.
  3. Tap Customize and you should be able to pick elements of the new themes.

Note: Huawei has stopped providing bootloader unlock codes for their devices. Therefore, the bootloaders of the Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro cannot be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
