Screen recorders have been quite fickle over the years due to the increased security restrictions that have gone into Android. The enthusiast community could generally turn to root applications to get the job done, but if you weren't willing to root or install a custom ROM then you were left without a fully functional screen recorder. The 3rd-party apps in the Play Store can do a lot, but many still have limitations such as not being able to record internal smartphone audio. OnePlus debuted a 1st-party screen recorder app with the launch of the OnePlus 7/7 Pro and you can download the better version we extracted from the latest developer preview of Android Q.

Owners of OnePlus' latest smartphones may not have even known that this is a new feature built into OxygenOS. If you look through the App Drawer you only find an app called Recorder and it is just for audio recording. But, if you look in the Quick Settings panel you should see the Screen Recorder option. Tapping on it brings up a floating menu with a couple of buttons and a way to dive into this new app's configuration area. There's a lot that you can do here and the app has improved even more with the latest Android Q developer preview.
