Samsung's Always on Display feature is one of the most customizable out there, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. With third-party apps like aodNotify, Holey Light, or Arc Lighting, you can change the AOD's behavior to act more like a notification indicator. This is especially useful since the Samsung Galaxy S10 lacks a notification LED. The initial release of aodNotify only allowed you to toggle AOD when you received a notification, but the developer, XDA Senior Member jawomo, has now released version 2.0 of the app with a bunch of new features such as Edge lighting effects.

With version 2.0, the app now has the following features:

  • Activate Always on Display on notifications
  • Next-gen notification light / LED replacement
  • Edge lighting effect for incoming notifications
  • Select apps which can turn on Always On Display
  • Activate Always On Display while charging
  • Quiet times, intervals and more

The biggest addition to version 2.0 is the new Edge lighting effect for notifications. As seen in the second screenshot below, this lighting effect shows around the screen, camera cutout, or notch on Galaxy smartphones. According to the developer, you can customize the lighting effect and choose between different positions, animations, colors, durations, intervals, and more.

The app supports all Samsung Galaxy smartphones with Samsung's Always on Display mode, which includes the following devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+
  • Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+
  • Samsung Galaxy S10/S10+
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9
  • Samsung Galaxy A30
  • Samsung Galaxy A50
  • Samsung Galaxy A70
  • Samsung Galaxy A80
  • Samsung Galaxy M20
  • Samsung Galaxy M30
  • Samsung Galaxy A6
  • Samsung Galaxy A7
  • Samsung Galaxy A8
  • Samsung Galaxy A9

Since the app uses Samsung's AOD and not its own implementation, it has a minimal impact on battery life. You can download the application from the Google Play Store link below or visit the XDA forum thread to ask questions or leave feedback.
