Bezel-less Beauty: the Elephone S3 is Elegant and Powerful for Just $149.99 [Sponsored]

If you’ve been around XDA for a while, you might recall that phones of the past would have massive bezels. In fact the phones on which this site were based, the XDA line of phones from O2, had bezels so large, you couldn’t help but wonder about a future where bezels would shrink, or even disappear entirely. Enter the Elephone S3, a phone that has no bezels, and as a result, looks absolutely stunning. But the S3 isn’t all about beauty, it also has a really nice spec sheet. Plus, it’s just $149 on Elephone’s website. Let’s explore it!

Constructed from glass and metal in a complex manufacturing process, the S3 gives you a zero-bezel design while still offering metal side rails to offer a comfortable grip on the phone. The screen is that “ideal” size that balances large screen viewability with one-handed ergonomics, at 5.2″ and FHD 1080p resolution.

Speaking of ergonomics, the Elephone S3 has a gently-curved back which allows it to rest in your palm with ease. Also on the back we can see the Sony IMX135 13MP camera, and the fingerprint sensor, which can be used not only to secure your phone, but also to do other tasks like taking selfies, revealing the notification tray, and more.

Most phones come in two or three colors, the S3 comes in four! Choose from gold, gray, silver, or stunning rose gold. The gray has a black front while the other colors have a white front to match the minimal antenna lines.

Performance & Software

Running on Android Marshmallow, the Elephone S3 offers snappy performance no matter what you’re doing, thanks to its 8-core MT6753 CPU + Mali-T720 GPU backed up by 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and microSD expandability up to 128GB. The 2100mAh battery charges super fast, giving you a full day of battery use with just a 30 minute charge.

The rear camera is a Sony IMX135 13MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The camera itself is a back-illuminated and stacked sensor with high-speed image capture and low noise. Below the camera is a super-bright LED flash.

The S3 comes with a near-stock version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. All changes that have been made by Elephone are additive: the user can remove all built-in apps, opt for on-screen or physical buttons, and can easily access sound profiles from the notification shade.

Why didn’t someone think of this before? The included charging cable has a ruler right on the wire, which is super handy!
