Samsung has been working hard to deliver the sweet delight of Android Pie to its smartphones across various price brackets. After delivering the One UI update based on Android 9 Pie for its flagships and mid-range devices, Samsung is now updating budget smartphones one by one. Now, ahead of the schedule it previously laid out for the One UI update, Samsung is bringing Android Pie to three entry-level smartphones in the Galaxy J7 series as well as to the Galaxy Tab Active 2.

One UI for Galaxy J7 Nxt, Galaxy J7 Pro, and Galaxy J7 (2017)

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt, which came in 2017 as the updated version of the 2016's Galaxy J7, is among the devices getting the UI refresh with the One UI update. The smartphone comes with an octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset, 2GB or 3GB options of RAM, and up to 32GB of storage. The Android Pie update comes as a second major OS update for the Galaxy J7 Nxt so it should come as a pleasant surprise. The update is currently available to users in Thailand.

The Galaxy J7 (2017) has some improvements over the J7 Nxt including a Full HD Super AMOLED display and a metal body design. It also comes with a more powerful 13MP selfie camera and a bigger battery. The smartphone was also launched with Android 7.0 Nougat and is getting ready for the Pie update which is now available to users in Spain.

At the same time, Galaxy J7 Pro, which is identical to the J7 (2017) in all terms except for its bigger storage – with options between the 32GB and 64GB. The J7 Pro also started receiving the update to Android Pie last week, with the update spotted in Russia.

The One UI update for the three Galaxy smartphone brings features like navigation gestures, floating Samsung keyboard, Night mode which enables a system-wide dark theme, as well as Android Pie's Adaptive Battery and Digital Wellbeing. Even though Samsung scrapped the Galaxy J series earlier this year, the continued support should keep the existing users happy.

Galaxy Tab Active 2

The rugged Galaxy Tab Active 2, which is meant for industrial applications, is also getting One UI as its second major OS update. Originally launched with Android 7.1 Nougat, the Galaxy Tab Active 2 is also getting June's security patches along with the new interface. Currently, the update appears to be limited to the LTE variant of the tablet and is only available in Italy for now.
