Google’s At A Glance widget prepares to add reminder alerts and intelligent tips

Google’s “At A Glance” widget is a useful widget that can be placed on the home screen, to show the date and current weather along with other info when needed. The widget was first available on Google Pixel devices through the Pixel Launcher, but it was subsequently made available for all Android devices through the Google app. Now, the widget is preparing to add reminder alerts and “intelligent tips” functionality on the Pixel Launcher.

As spotted by Android Police, the At A Glance widget is preparing to add reminders and intelligent tips to the information that the widget can display in addition to calendar events, upcoming flights, and traffic conditions. The toggle to enable these two has been spotted in the settings of the widget, but toggling them doesn’t appear to be doing anything just yet.

It is currently unknown what exactly these “intelligent tips” would be and how being powered by Google Assistant would make them more useful.

At A Glance can be used on other launchers, but you may lose the ability to access the settings panel of the widget depending on your launcher. To access the settings on the Pixel Launcher, long press on your home screen and then navigate to Home Settings > At A Glance. The widget is popular for its simplicity, but there is so much more that Google could do with it. Perhaps this is a step in that direction? A man can hope.
