Google Calculator gets a Material Theme redesign in latest update

Ever since Google introduced Material Design, we’ve seen apps stray further and further from Google’s initial guidelines. That’s fine for most apps, but it’s a bit jarring to see UI inconsistencies even among Google’s apps. With the new Google Material Theme guidelines (commonly referred to as “Material Design 2,” though Google stresses that each brand should have their own take on Material Theme) introduced alongside Android Pie, Google’s latest apps have started to look more unified.

We’ve already seen Google Photos, Google Phone, Google Contacts, Google Chrome, and Android Messages receive a new coat of paint. Now, the time has come for the Google Calculator app. To be honest, I really didn’t think that there was much they could do with this app, but it is what it is. Here is how the new version looks.

Just by looking at it, you can tell that new app uses the Product Sans font. It’s that and, well, it’s white. There’s really not much else that can be said about the 1.7 Mb update of the application. The rollout is immediate, so you should be able to update the application right now from the Google Play Store. Here is the link in case you belong to the small number of users who don’t have Google’s Calculator app installed on their phones.
