[Update 1: 5 More States] Google Duplex is now available for all Pixel phones in 43 U.S. states
Google Duplex was one of the most exciting things announced at Google I/O last year. It caught a lot of headlines for being “magical” and extremely cool. Not to be confused with Call Screening, Duplex can do things like call a barber and make a haircut appointment. It began rolling out to Google Pixel owners late last year and now Google has announced it’s available in 43 US states.
Google says the feedback they received up until this point has helped them bring Google Duplex to more people. It is now available on the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL in the US states listed below. All you have to do is ask Google Assistant to perform a task, such as “Book a table for four people at [restaurant} tomorrow night.” Google will either call the business on your behalf or make a reservation with an online booking service. You get notified when the task has been completed.
Google says they will continue to bring the feature to more Android and iOS devices over the coming weeks. They also set up a page for business owners to get more information about Google Assistant calls and instructions for opting out. Have you tried Google Duplex yet?
Update 1: Google Duplex Now Available in 48 U.S. States
In addition to the 43 U.S. States listed above, Duplex now works in Texas, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska (via AndroidPolice). That leaves Kentucky and Louisiana as the remaining 2 States to not have the service. The service works on all Pixel smartphones and many non-Pixel devices, too.
