Google Photos is one of Google's best online services because it offers free, unlimited photo backup and a ton of useful features to help organize photos into albums. Recently, Google rolled out the ability to search your photos by text, and they're also testing a Photo Frames feature to show curated albums on local Chromecasts or smart displays. Earlier today, we received an update to version 4.24 of the Photos app, and we managed to activate a new feature that will let you buy Photo Prints at Walmart or CVS or large Canvas Prints to hang on your walls.

An APK teardown can often predict features that may arrive in a future update of an application, but it is possible that any of the features we mention here may not make it in a future release. This is because these features are currently unimplemented in the live build and may be pulled at any time by the developers in a future build.

At Google I/O 2017, Google updated the Photos app to let users print softcover (7" x 7") or hardcover (9" x 9") photo books starting at $9.99. A minimum of 20 photos and a maximum of 100 photos are required to make a Photo Book. Now, over two years later, Google is preparing to add more printing options in Google Photos. Once the feature goes live, the "Photo Books" option in the sidebar will be updated to say "Print shop" with the description "Photo books, prints, and canvases."

Google Photos new printing UI

Same Day Photo Prints at Walmart and CVS

Selecting the "photo prints" option reveals that you'll be able to print 4" x 6" matte prints for $0.25 each and pick them up on the same day from a local Walmart or CVS. Before you order, you can change the pick-up contact in case you want to send a family member or friend to pick up the photos. Currently, you seem to be required to pay at the store. The pick-up time depends on the store, and Google Photos will tell you that you need to call the store to determine when the prints are ready. However, the app will at least show you an estimated time range for when the prints will be ready.

Canvas Prints

If you have one photo that you're particularly proud of—so proud, in fact, that you want to hang it on a wall—then you'll be happy to know that Google Photos is adding an option for Canvas prints. You'll be able to order an 8" x 8" print for $19.99, a 11" x 14" print for $29.99, or a 16" x 20" print for $44.99, plus shipping. (The depth for each Canvas print size is 1.5".) The app lets you preview the Canvas, rotate the Canvas, and change the wrap before checking out.

These features are not yet available in the Google Photos 4.24 app, but given that the feature seems complete, it'll likely launch soon. We'll let you know when that happens.
