Building up to the Apple iPhone 11 series launch event, the Google Pixel 4 and Google Pixel 4 XL leaks have been out in full force. There have been far too many leaks over the span of two weeks for all of them to be purely accidental and a mere coincidence. Information still keeps trickling in, as we saw comparison shots of the Black and White colors, more hands-on photos and videos of the new “Coral” orange color, more details about Motion Sense as enabled by Project Soli’s radar within the phone. Now, we have further information, as the Google Pixel 4 XL is expected to launch on October 15, 2019, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC inside.

The first leak comes to us courtesy of Evan ‘evleaks’ Blass, as he tweeted out an image of the Google Pixel 4 with the caption: “Google Fall Event: 10/15?“. Since Evan has a private twitter account, we are reproducing the image below.

While the caption does point to a date, this date appears to have its origin on the date mentioned on the lockscreen of the pictured phone. Smartphone launches have been teased in the past with cryptic teasers like these, so one can realistically presume that Google will launch the new Pixel 4 series smartphones at an event on October 15, 2019. This pieces together one of the final unknowns in the Pixel 4 story, as we now have an expected date of launch.

The next set of information comes to us from 91Mobiles. According to them, the Google Pixel 4 XL will ship with a smaller display compared to its predecessor. The Pixel 4 XL is expected to come with a 6.23″ QHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, as compared to the Pixel 3 XL‘s 6.3″ QHD+ display with a 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Also, the Pixel 4 XL will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, and not the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus. The Snapdragon 855 Plus is an incremental upgrade over the standard Snapdragon 855, featuring slightly higher clock speeds and better graphics performance. While a newer and objectively better SoC would have been preferred, this omission can be excused if the Pixel 4 series comes with optimizations that can fully take advantage of the still-capable Snapdragon 855 SoC.
