Google’s Certified Refurbished program nets you discounts on the Pixelbook and Google Wifi
Looking for a deal on a Google Pixelbook or Google Wifi, but don’t want to buy used or from a third-party retailer? Then you may be interested in Google’s Certified Refurbished page on the Google Store.
As spotted today by AndroidPolice, a new page has appeared on the Google Store promoting refurbished Google hardware. So far, only Google’s 2017 Chromebook (and not the poorly received Pixel Slate) and their mesh Wifi router system are available for purchase on this new page. You can grab a refurbished 12.3″ Pixelbook with the 7th generation Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, and 128GB SSD for $749, down from $999. The refurbished Google Wifi 3-Pack is available for $179, down from $259. Pricing and availability will vary by region, as is usual with Google Store products.
Both deals are great because both devices are great. The Pixelbook is a well-built laptop with powerful hardware, and although it runs Chrome OS, it has gained the ability to run Linux apps in the past year. I’ve heard nothing but praise for this laptop since its launch, which I can’t say for the Pixel Slate, unfortunately. The Google Wifi is highly recommended if you’re looking to upgrade your home network. Mesh Wifi networking allows devices to hop seamlessly between nodes, and the Google Wifi is one of the simplest, yet highly performant, mesh Wifi systems out there. I recently bought the TP-Link Deco M5 for my networking needs, but if I had known about this deal I would have gone with the Google Wifi.
Google offers a 1-year warranty on its refurbished products, which matches its support for brand-new products. That’s also longer than you’ll get for most refurbished products, and if you have a credit card with extended warranty provisions, you’ll be able to extend that warranty even longer. Hopefully, the Google Store will add more products to the Certified Refurbished page, because I don’t mind buying refurbished devices. What about you?
