Back in March, the Google Translate app on Android received a new feature that allowed users to transcribe and translate speech in near real-time. Google is now rolling out an update to this feature that will let users save these transcriptions for later reference.

Soon, when you're transcribing speech, you’ll see a star button in the upper right-hand corner to save your transcript. All of your saved transcripts can then be accessed through the sidebar menu of the Translate app, where you can rename them for better organization.

If you’ve never used Translate's transcribe feature before, it allows users to select the source and target languages from the language dropdown and then translate between the two languages in basically real-time. It’s a phenomenal way to communicate for people who don’t speak the same language. The transcription feature in Google Translate currently supports nine languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Italian.

We actually got our first glimpse of this feature being tested back in May, so we knew it was coming. The feature seems to be rolling out via a server-side update as it doesn't seem to be enabled yet on some of our devices running Google Translate version 6.11, the latest version available on the Google Play Store.
