The Chrome Web Store is an online store run by Google. It's mainly used by Chrome browser and ChromeOS users to get extensions. However, as a lot of other web browsers these days use the Chromium project as their base, they can also run Chrome extensions. Note that you'll only be able to find extensions on the Chrome Web Store. Google discontinued apps in the Chrome Web Store on Windows, Mac, and Linux in December 2022.

How to open the Chrome Web Store on the Chrome browser

Opening the Chrome Web Store in Google Chrome on macOS, Linux, or Windows is easy. You'll just need to head into the menu bar. From there, you'll be taken to the store after a few extra clicks.

  1. Click on the three-dot menu on the right side of Google Chrome.
  2. Choose Extensions.
  3. Choose Visit Chrome Web Store.

  4. A new tab will open with the Chrome Web Store.
  5. Click Extensions in the sidebar to find Extensions.
  6. Click Themes to look for new themes for Chrome.
  7. If you're looking for something more specific, choose the Search the Store option and type what you're looking for.

If you want to install a Chrome extension, just click its listing, choose Add to Chrome, and then Add extension. At any time, you also can manage an extension by clicking on the puzzle piece icon in your menu bar, and choosing Manage extensions to get to the page to remove it. For themes, just click the theme and choose Add to Chrome to instantly apply it.

How to open the Chrome Web Store on ChromeOS

Getting to the Chrome Web Store on ChromeOS is even easier. Since Chrome is integrated into the operating system, you need not worry about going through a settings menu. The Chrome Web Store is pre-installed as an application.

  1. Click on circular the launcher on the bottom left side of your screen.
  2. Search for Web Store.

The Chrome Web Store will automatically open, and you'll have access to extensions and themes. You can install these in the same manner that we mentioned above.

How to open the Chrome Web Store on other web browsers

Opera - Install Chrome Extensions

If your web browser supports installing Chrome extensions, you can open the Chrome Web Store by just going to the Chrome Web Store. However, to install the extensions, you’ll need to enable support for them in some browsers. Here's what you need to do.

  • Microsoft Edge: Go to Menu > Settings, and enable the Allow extensions from other stores toggle in the lower-left corner.
  • Opera: You can just visit the Chrome Web Store and choose Add to Opera.
  • Brave and Vivaldi don’t require any special settings to use Chrome extensions.
