Apple products are famous for the tight ecosystem that ties them all together. This interoperability enables you to use all of your compatible devices as a single entity, with support for completing a certain task using any of your connected machines. A notable example is the ability to hand off a FaceTime call between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Whether you're running iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, or another recent OS version, all you have to do is follow the steps we've listed below.

How to use FaceTime Handoff

  1. Make sure your iPhone/iPad/Mac devices are paired to the same Apple ID account and running at least iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura.
  2. Ensure that Handoff is enabled in Settings > General on your devices. It should be on by default.
  3. Check your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi toggles and confirm that they're enabled on all of your devices.
  4. That's it! There's nothing else you need to do. When you answer an audio or video FaceTime call on any of your devices, you will get a notification or banner on all nearby devices. Clicking it will switch the device handling the FaceTime call, thanks to Handoff.

As you can see, handing off a FaceTime call between your supported devices is an incredibly straightforward process. It certainly is a handy addition that makes it easier to switch to a more suitable device without needing to interrupt the call. So, for example, if you've just arrived home while FaceTiming someone on your iPhone, you can instantly use FaceTime Handoff to transfer the call to the Mac in your home office. Prior to this welcome implementation, users had to end the call on iOS, then call the person again from iPadOS or macOS, depending on their preferences. We only hope Apple Music follows suit and introduces a similar feature in the near future.
